Catalog Description:

As part of the Sociology major and general studies curriculum this course introduces students to the scientific discipline of the study of societies. It examines sociological concepts, research methods and theories in an historical context together with the work of early and contemporary social scientists. Emphasis is placed on critical analysis, culture and the socialization process, social interaction, inter-communal relations, and the social construction of race, class and social status in America. (CAN SOC 2)

Needs/Justifications/Goals:

This course fulfills AA/AS graduation and UC/CSU General Education Certification requirements. This course also fulfills undergraduate requirements for Bachelor Degree in Sociology.

Introduction to Sociology

I. Catalog Description

SOCI 1, Introduction to Sociology 3 Units

As part of the Sociology major and general studies curriculum this course introduces students to the scientific discipline of the study of societies. It examines sociological concepts, research methods and theories in an historical context together with the work of early and contemporary social scientists. Emphasis is placed on critical analysis, culture and the socialization process, social interaction, inter-communal relations, and the social construction of race, class and social status in America.
