|Specific Lesson Outcomes for |

|the students |

|How will I determine if outcomes have been met |

| |

|Students participate in a variety of team and individual games and activities, using and building on skills and strategies from other sports |

|Students actively participate in all games and activities |

|Students are actually participating in all activities and are open to learning new skills |

| |

| |

| |

| |

|Students engage in activities which develop strategic thinking and tactical knowledge to improve individual and team performance in competitive sports or games |

|Students understand the tactics involved in a team environment and work together to achieve certain goals |

|Students are able to work cooperatively in a team and can explain their tactics to improve their performance |

| |

| |

| |

| |

| |

|Students regularly present information, ideas and opinions for a variety of purposes, to a range of audiences, in both formal and informal settings |

|Students voice their opinion on how the team is going and offer advice for ways of improvement |

|Students get the chance to discuss in their team the strategies/tactics they will adopt and apply these in a game setting |

| |

|INTRODUCTION (5 min) | |

| |Teacher in front of class |

|Take attendance |Explain activities |

|Set class rules and expectations | |

|Outline activities to be completed |Class will be all bout games |

|PROCEDURE (110min) | |

| | |

|Warm up (10mins) |Ensure students are warm |

|Students complete a general warm up comprised of running around the oval and stretching | |

|One lap of oval |Outline importance of warm up prior to exercise |

| | |

|Play game of tag in small area – get them all moving and having fun | |

| | |

|Kickball (20 mins) |Fun twist on kickball to incorporate solar |

| |system |

| | |

| |Each cone is worth different points (depending |

| |on distance from earth) |

| | |

| |Encourage students |

| | |

| |Ensure all students are actively participating |

| | |

| |Throw the ball to those who might not be as |

| |involved to get them involved |

| | |

| |Modification – everyone on the team must touch |

| |the ball before it gets back to the ‘bowler’ |

| | |

|One person from the fielding team rolls the ball to the ‘kicker’ who kicks the ball anywhere in the court away | |

|from the fielders | |

|The ‘kicker’ then runs around any of the cones as many times as possible to score as many points as possible | |

|Each cone is a different planet and is worth different points depending how far away from earth they are | |

|Venus = 1 point | |

|Mars = 2 points | |

|Mercury = 3 points | |

|The sun = 4 points | |

|Jupiter = 5 points | |

|Saturn = 6 points | |

|Uranus = 7 points | |

|Neptune = 10 points | |

|If the fielding team catches the ball, the kicker is out (each team gets 3 ‘outs’ until they change with the | |

|other team | |

|Go through until everyone has had a go, with the team at the end with the highest score being the winner | |

| | |

|Soccer – different goals around the field (20 mins) |Modified game of soccer |

|The next game is a modified game of soccer, where the class is split into 3 teams for a round robin | |

|It is a soccer based game, although on the filed there are a number of ‘goals’ set up for students to score |Round robin (third team can be involved by |

|through (depending how big each planet is) |umpiring, scoring etc) |

| | |

| |Outline the scoring system (depending on planet |

| |size) |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| |Encourage and praise students |

| | |

| |Ask them to use tactics in their team to benefit|

| |performance |

| | |

| |Which goals will you attack most? |

| | |

| |Trade-off between level of difficulty and points|

| |scored |

|Similar scoring to the game before | |

|1 point – Jupiter | |

|2 point – Saturn | |

|3 point – Uranus | |

|4 point – Neptune | |

|5 point – Earth | |

|6 point – Venus | |

|7 point – Mars | |

|10 point – Mercury | |

|Two teams playing at once (complete round robin so everyone has played each other) | |

| | |

|Netball modification game (20 mins) | |

|Game is played with netball rules | |

|There are 4 goals set up around the court | |

|Aim is to pass in your team to a team mate standing in one of the hoops (goals) | |

|Each hoop will be worth different points as per solar system | |

|Hoop 1 – easiest to score (Jupiter) | |

|- have to catch the ball with two hands in hoop | |

|Hoop 2 – harder to score (Neptune) | |

|- have to catch the ball with one hand in hoop | |

|Hoop 3 – difficult to score (Venus) | |

|- have to catch the ball with two hands whilst jumping out of hoop | |

|Hoop 4 – very difficult to score (mercury) | |

|- have to catch the ball with one hand whilst jumping off one leg out of the hoop | |

| | |

|Difficulty to score increases as the planets get smaller | |

| | |

| | |

| |Similar scoring to the game previous |

| | |

| |Netball rules apply: |

| |No contact |

| |Stepping |

| |3 feet |

| | |

| |Each hoop requires a different action to score a|

| |goal |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

| | |

|CLOSURE (5 min) | |

| |What is the planet furthest away from earth? |

|Recap of planets in the solar system | |

|Outline how these tie in with other classes this week |What is the smallest planet? |

|RESOURCES |

| |

|Soccer ball (2) |

|Cones (30) |

|Hoola hoop (4) |

|Wickets (2) |

|Colour band (3 colours) |

|Netball (1) |

|CRITERIA FOR ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT |

| |

|Students participate in activities |

|Students understand different planets sizes and distances from earth |
