|Strategy: Solving Word Problems- Math |

|Appropriate Grade Level: 1-12 |

|Procedures/Steps: This is a seven-step process to use when teaching different age and ability levels how to solve word problems. |

|Go back to the word problem’s question and ask yourself, what are they asking for? |

|Get rid of any extra data. |

|Look for and identify the key words. |

|Identify the essential numbers. |

|Think it through again; what is it that they are asking for? |

|Solve the problem using paper and a pencil. |

|Always ask yourself, does my answer make sense? |

|Comments and/or tips: |

|This strategy is to be done in a collaborative, flexible grouping, peer-learning type of atmosphere. |

|This strategy is great to use in a multi-age classroom. |
