General Objective
The purpose of this component is to help educators (Grades 6-12) begin to implement changes in their teaching methods and to bring connections within the mathematics curriculum. Upon successful completion of the component, participants will be able to begin to implement the use of graphics calculators in their classroom in problem solving situations.
Specific Objectives
Upon completion of this component, participants will be able to:
1. To develop knowledge of the graphing calculator.
2. Use the graphing calculator mode to explore rounding numbers.
3. Use the graphing calculator mode to explore fractions.
4. Use the graphing calculator mode to explore decimals.
5. Use the graphing calculator mode to explore order of operations.
6. Use the graphing calculator mode to explore exponents.
7. Use the graphing calculator mode to explore scientific notation and data collected and analysis.
8. Use the graphing mode to graph order pairs and functions.
9. Use the calculator to discuss one-variable data and numerical exploration.
10. Use the calculator in exploration and evaluating expressions and data collection and analysis.
11. Use the calculator in approaching algebra numerically, graphing linear equations, solving linear equations and inequalities graphically.
12. Use the calculator in solving absolute value equations and inequalities, solving systems graphically, matrices, and collection and analysis.
13. Use the calculator in solving and factoring equations.
14. Use the calculator in exploring rate of change and absolute value.
15. Use the calculator in transformations.
16. Use the calculator in linear programming and characteristics of polynomial functions.
17. Use the calculator in non-linear systems and rational functions.
18. Use the calculator in rational functions, exponential functions, data collection and analysis.
19. Use the calculator to demonstrate inverses and logarithmic functions.
20. Use the calculator to demonstrate x=(y) and quadratic relations.
21. Use the calculator to explain sequences, series, permutations, combinations, and basic topic in geometry.
Description of Activities
Activities held under this component will be designed to accomplish the specific objectives outlined above. They may include, but will not be limited to, hands-on experience with the graphing calculator and classroom discussions on math methods.
Evaluation of Participants
Evaluation of the specific objectives will be determined by the activity leader or designee through analysis of student performance data affected by training activities, portfolios maintained by the training participant, documented observation by administrators, rubrics developed for special area curriculum, teacher-provided test results/grade books, or curriculum alignment data.
Evaluation of Activity
An online evaluation for this activity will be conducted through the Santa Rosa Professional Growth System.
