These important resources are then compared to North Carolina’s educational standards and modified to fit the needs of our learners. Language and LiteracyLiteracy components (letters, reading, etc.) follow a carefully planned, but playful approach to learning. Letters and letter sounds are explored through direct and indirect instruction. Children engage in literacy through sensory play, lively book readings, singing songs and more.Logistics: 2 letters/month- Theme Approach with lessons & books- vocabulary reinforced through crafts, readings, and oral language activities.Math ConceptsChildren will be learning the fundamentals of math through problem solving, everyday routines, rote counting, sorting, and more. Math is more than numbers and we teach to this approach.Logistics: Children will learn patterns, rote counting, 1:1 correspondence, number ID, sorting/classifying, shapes/sizes and more! Fine Motor and Gross MotorDevelopmental milestones are explored and approaches to reaching these goals are broken down to develop appropriate goals for this category. Children develop fine motor strength and precision though play, arts and crafts and songs. Gross motor is achieved through active play, movement songs and organized games. Logistics: Core concepts taught- throwing, jumping, etc. and socially appropriate games reinforced (Mother May I, etc.)School Readiness and Social Skills‘School Readiness’ is a term teachers use to describe how a child does inside the classroom. This could be considered the most important part of a child’s education because it encompasses how well a child tolerates school rules. Can he sit? Can he listen? Can he wait his turn, raise his hand, ask questions and follow a group? Social skills are also an important part of this category. We work on this through formal teaching of appropriate social behaviors, classroom routines and repetition. ................
