Book Collection: Nonfiction – More than 4,000 nonfiction book chapters for all grade levels on many topics, including biographies of famous people, careers, historical events, science, sports, hobbies and recreation, and more

Britannica Elementary / Compton’s Encyclopedia (Middle School) / Encyclopaedia Britannica High School including Merriam-Webster’s Student Dictionary and Thesaurus – Encyclopedia articles give essential information on language arts topics and include images, videos, and editorially-selected websites for further exploration. Learning materials provide activities and exercises for all ages. Check Teachers’ Resources for help connecting resources to the GPS and using this resource in the classroom.

Britannica Learning Zone – This PreK-2 learning environment includes an area to learn concepts, such as time, numbers, shapes, sounds; an interactive atlas with videos from different parts of the world; and reading activities to build vocabulary and teach language arts concepts

NoveList and NoveList K-8 – Fiction readers' advisory tool to find books that teach certain language and literary concepts, such as letters, sounds, plot, theme, etc.; books on certain geographic areas or periods of time; books of a certain genre; and lists of books that link to language arts units (Curricular Connections) as well as award-winners and recommended reads. Lexile scores are included.

SIRS Discoverer/Researcher – Search for magazine and newspaper articles, including items from children’s and youth magazines, as well as images, maps, and editorially-selected websites for further exploration. The Activities section in SIRS Discoverer includes read-aloud plays and stories as well as many reading, writing, and language projects for kids, and the Biographies section allows students to search or browse for information about famous people. SIRS Researcher has research guides for many controversial topics that provide excellent starting points for information and persuasive papers.
