LocalArrangeEmailInfo - University of South Carolina

Dear ICRSA2003 Conference Participants,

For the upcoming International Conference on Reliability and Survival Analysis (ICRSA) on May 21-24, 2003, at the University of South Carolina, we are sending the information below about the local arrangements.

All of these information are available at the ICRSA web site:

1. REGISTRATION: The registration form is available at the web site and can be completed online. The early registration deadline is March 1, 2003, after which the fee increases. ALL participants should complete a registration form, which also includes the University housing reservation in the South Quad dorm (Building 135 in university map), extra tickets for the banquet for guests, and other informational items.

2. HOUSING: University housing in the South Quad dormitory (Building 135 in university map) has been reserved for the conference at a rate of $39.95 per person per night plus tax. These rooms must be reserved on the Registration Form as noted above. This is a new, modern (quite plush) "dormitory" with apartment-style units consisting of 4 separate bedrooms, 2 private baths, and a living area with kitchen. Each bedroom has a twin bed, desk, and chest for clothes. Floor plan and other info are in the following web site:

Other rooms have been made available at reasonable conference rates at two hotels adjacent to the University campus (within a 3-4 block walk to the meeting rooms): The Holiday Inn – City Center (803-799-7800) and the Clarion Townhouse (803-771-8711). You will need to call to make reservations at either of these hotels.

3. TRAVEL: If you are driving, Columbia is located along three U.S. Interstate Highways, I-20, I-26, and I-77. Maps are also given at the conference web site or can be found in the following web sites:

(metro area map)

(city map)

(university map).

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is served by several airlines, including Continental, Delta, Midway, ASA and Comair, United Express and US Airways. The airport can provide shuttles or taxicabs and an average taxi fare from the airport to the university will range from $15.00 to $20.00. Columbia Metropolitan Airport is growing and currently travelers can fly direct to Columbia from 12 U.S. airports. Also, Charlotte (North Carolina)/Douglas International Airport is just 90 minutes away via the Interstate-77 highway.

4. DINING AND OTHER ACTIVITIES: Registration packets will be available in the South Quad lobby on Wednesday evening, May 21, and at the meeting area in the Russell House (Building 112 in university map) on campus on Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24. The packets will include lists of restaurants and available attractions in the city and on campus. There are numerous excellent restaurants within a few blocks of the South Quad and hotels. Available attractions include several museums, historic sites, and the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

5. PROGRAM: Abstracts that we have received have already been linked to the website:

If you want to make changes (we hope just minor) on your abstract, please let us know. We will be posting the schedule of talks within this month after we receive the last few remaining abstracts. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us: Edsel Pena (pena@stat.sc.edu), Joe Padgett (padgett@stat.sc.edu), or Jim Lynch (lynch@stat.sc.edu).

Many thanks to all of you, and see you in May!

Sincerely,
