Holly’s plays its first night game was Oct. 12, 1945 under the lights of Cyclone Park. In 1946 Holly adopts our mascot to be the “Bronchos.” The Holly-Fenton Game is played on Thanksgiving in Crapo Park until 1947. Holly achieves undefeated seasons in 1952, 1932 & 1931. In 1966 Holly again changes its school colors, this time from Red & Gray to Red & White. In 1968 Holly leaves the Wayne-Oakland league to become a charter member of the Flint Metro League along with Ainsworth, Carmen, Fenton, Lapeer and Swartz Creek. Holly running back Mark Phalen’s #22 jersey is taken out of circulation. 1988 Artie Mangham becomes the first player at Holly to be named to the MHSFCA All Star Game. 1995 Kyle Keefer is named to the MHSFCA All Star Game. 1999 – Darrell Dewitt is named head coach. Team wins the first game of the Dewitt era 24-16 over Mt. Morris. Team finishes the 1999 season 1-8. 2000 – The Bronchos start off the season winning a thriller. Holly defeats Lakeland High School 21-20 using a stout defense to secure victory. Team finishes the 2000 season 1-8. Nick Robinson earns second team all-conference.2001 – While the Bronchos struggled on the football field, a new era in Holly Football began with the commencement of the Holly Youth Tackle Football program. The youth program was the vision of Coach Dewitt and was able to begin due his plan and the hard work of families throughout the community. Mt. Morris and LakeVille leave the Flint Metro League.2002 – Brandon joins the Flint Metro League. The highlight of the season is when the Bronchos go on the road to defeat Flint Beecher 20-12 to end a 15-game losing streak. The Bronchos rely on many sophomores to lay the groundwork for the future. Team finishes 1-8.2003 – The Bronchos make strides on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The scoring offense and defense improve by a combined 110 points from the previous year. Holly produces a 1,000-yard rusher for the first time since 1984. Team finishes the 2003 season 1-8. Matt Turner earns second team all-conference.2004 - Mike Millhouse named head coach. ?Team competes hard all season to go 3-6 with one overtime loss, while improving in scoring offense and scoring defense by a combined 101 points. ?Bronchos take Holly-Fenton trophy for first time in eight years with 20-7 victory over rival. ?Casey Lambert and Chris Turner earn second team all-conference honors, while three other Bronchos are named honorable mention.HOLLY FOOTBALL HISTORY2005 - Clio joins the Flint Metro League. Broncho varsity continues to show improvement by going 4-5 and scoring most points since 1990. ?Paul McNeely, Andre Mallett, and Korey Chenoweth earn first team all-league honors, while Nate Schuermann earns second team. ?2006 – Swartz Creek joins the Flint Metro League. Holly program maintains its upward trend by going 7-3 and making the playoffs for the first time in school history. ?Team sets school record for rushing yardage and total offensive yardage, while giving up the fewest points on defense in eighteen years. ?Steve Bosy, Korey Chenoweth, Nate Schuermann, A.J. Palko, and Derek Kreiner are named first team all-conference, while Michael Ray is named to the second team. ?2007 - Four close losses by a combined total of sixteen points prevent the Bronchos from making the playoffs for a second year in a row. ?Team finishes with 3-6 record, but extends its win streak over Fenton to four in a row. ?Nick Schrader is named second team all-league. ?2008- Ryan Culloty named head coach. Team achieves first victory of the Culloty era in a 14-7 win over Swartz Creek. Holly achieves a 2-7 record for the year. Shane Hegedus earns second team all-conference honors; while four other Bronchos are named honorable mention all-conference. 2009-Holly has two players earn second team all-conference honors; Josh Houldsworth and Austin Legant. Four other Bronchos are named honorable mention all-conference. Marked the last year for Oxford in the Flint Metro League. Josh Houldsworth named Academic All State.2010-Holly qualifies for state playoffs and faces Walled Lake Central. Season is highlighted with victories over League Champion Linden, Fenton and a week nine victory over 5-3 Brandon to qualify for the playoffs. Holly records a victory in the first annual Fenton Wounded Warrior game. Holly has three players named first team all-conference: Anderius Gray, Joe Piwowlarski and Zack Coxen and twelve Bronchos total are named to the All-Conference Team. Holly has 13 members of its squad named FML Scholar Athletes and had four members named State Bank’s Athlete of the Week. Holly finishes 6-4 and breaks the school record for total offense. Coach Eric Curl named Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year. HOLLY FOOTBALL HISTORY2011-Holly wins its first Flint Metro League Conference Championship in school history and qualifies for playoffs for the third time. Holly is rated #10 in the state (Division II) by the Detroit Free Press at the end of the regular season. Holly faces South Lyon in playoffs. Season is highlighted with victories over Fenton, Linden and a week nine victory over Brandon to clinch the conference championship. John Williams becomes the first QB that is in the 1,000/1,000-yard club at Holly, Allan Strode breaks the all-time and season record for sacks and Austin Hopkin breaks the career record for interceptions and seasonal punting average. Five Bronhos are named State Bank Athletes of the Week. Thirteen Bronchos are selected to the All-Conference Team including Austin Hopkin, David McNeely, Evin Papuga, Joel Schuermann, Allan Strode and John Williams all being selected first team. Austin Hopkin named to the Detroit News & AP All State Teams. Allan Strode named 1st team All County by the Oakland Press. Ryan Houldsworth named 1st team Academic All State. Johnny Williams named the Tri-County Times Player of the Year. Coach Peter LoFiego named Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year. Holly finishes 3rd the state for team G.P.A 3.945. 2012- Holly has three players named first team all-conference: Evin Papuga, Kyle Vandell and Johnny Williams and eight Bronchos total are named to the All-Conference Team. Holly has ten members of its squad named FML Scholar Athletes and had three members named State Bank’s Athlete of the Week. Holly finishes 5-4 and breaks the school record for most points in a season. Johnny Williams becomes the Single Season & All Time leading rusher & TD leader in Holly history. Johnny Williams (AP, Det. Free Press, Det. News), Evin Papuga (AP, Det. News), and Kyle Vandell (Det. Free Press), are named to the All-State Team. Josh Sayles is named to the All County Team along with Willams, Papuga and Vandell. Jesse Torres named 2nd team Academic All State. Holly finishes 10th in the state for team G.P.A 3.792. Evin Papuga becomes the first Holly Football player of the Culloty era to be selected to the MHSFCA All Star Game. Austin Chmura breaks the record for longest field goal with a 37-yard try. 2015- Holly qualifies for state playoffs and faces Fenton High School. Season is highlighted by a dramatic turn-around from a 0-9 campaign to qualifying for the football playoffs for the fourth time in school history. Holly is named Academic All State for the 8th straight season. Holly participates in the third annual Holly Pink Game to benefit the American Cancer Society. Holly has players four players named first team all-conference: Javon Barr, Cristian Diaz, Jimmy Gray and Adam Tooley: 13 Bronchos total are named to the FML All-Conference Team. Cristian Diaz breaks the game and season tackling records. Adam Tooley becomes the first four-year varsity player of the Culloty era and broke four receiving records during his career. Adam Tooley is named to the Detroit Free Press All State Team and Javon Barr is named to the MHSFCA Academic All-State Team. David Tooley named Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year. Coach Ryan Culloty is named Flint Metro and Regional Coach of the Year and wins the MHSFCA Spicer Award for Leadership and Community Service. Cristian Diaz, Jimmy Gray and Adam Tooley are selected to participate in the first ever Flint Area All Star Game. Adam Tooley becomes the 4th Holly football Player to by selected to the MHSFCA All Star Game. Holly finishes 5-5.2016-Holly finishes with its second consecutive winning regular season. JD Lannon breaks the school punting record average with 38.4 for the season. Holly participates in the 4th annual Holly Pink Game and secured a victory over Swartz Creek. Five Bronchos are named State Bank Athletes of the Week. Holly has 11 selections to the all-conference team lead by first team members: Quincy Curtis, Bryce Jacopec, Paris Partee and Kyle Staple. Paris Partee is named to the AP All State Team and Bryce Jacopec is named to the Academic All-State Team. Paris Partee becomes the 5th Holly football Player to by selected to the MHSFCA All Star Game. Griffin Backs, Quincy Curtis, Bryce Jacopec, Nick Michels, Kyle Staple and Garrett Stapleton are selected to participate in the 2nd annual Flint Area All Star Game Owosso High School is admitted to the Flint Metro League for the start of the 2017-2018 school year.2017-Holly finishes with its third consecutive winning regular season and sixth in the last eight years. JD Lannon breaks the school punting record average with 39.3 for the season and the team sets the record for most points scored in a game with 61 twice (Owosso & UPSM). Holly participates in the 5th annual Holly Pink Game and secured a victory over Clio. Three Bronchos are named State Bank Athletes of the Week.
