Finish watching the movie about Selena and answer the comprehension questions that they already have from yesterday.

If you need help with the computer or starting the movie, Sana Yazji is very knowledgeable.

Remember that you will have to turn on the SmartBoard and possibly adjust the volume using the knob on the SmartBoard.

The DVD is already in the laptop.

Click on the round Microsoft icon on the bottom left of the screen.

Click on computer and double click on top DVD icon—NOT the burn DVD.

When the trailer starts playing, right click on the screen.

Go to DVD Features

Click on Root Menu

Set Languages to Spanish.

Yesterday we stopped at the part where Selena is singing in the purple dress.

Move the blue slider at the bottom of the screen until it says 1:56—they only need a few more minutes to finish the movie.

After they finish the movie, ask students to write 8 things they learned about the Hispanic culture through the movie. It can be social issues or family relationships and values. Each idea they learned must be supported with an example from the movie. They may write this in English.

For example,

I learned about the prejudices that existed back then against Hispanics when the owner of the club didn’t want them to play because they were Mexican and it was a Whites-only club.

If time permits:

Next, students need to pretend they are telling a Spanish-speaking friend about the movie they saw in their Spanish class. They need to write 20 sentences describing what happened in the movie using the past tenses: Preterit to talk about the events that HAPPENED; Imperfect to DESCRIBE THE CIRCUMSTANCES; and if needed pluperfect to say what people in the movie HAD done before another event.

They should turn in what they have at the end of the period. I will give them more time to work on it later if they need it.

THANKS AGAIN! I will be on campus administering the IB test in C1. I will be in at lunch to allow students to finish their IB written exam. If non-IB students come in during Charger Time to complete the writing exam, you can give them their papers from the labeled folder.
