If you want to compare with a number, use “de” instead of “que.”

Using Tener to express AGE
To say how old someone is in Spanish, you say someone HAS a certain number of years.
Conjugate the form of TENER for the person, then say the number, then say years (años).
Tener + #(age) + años.
I am fifteen years old = I have fifteen years = Yo tengo quince años.

Posesión con “DE”
In English, we show possession (who owns something) by adding ____________________.
In Spanish, we don’t have this. Instead, we show possession by using the word “de,” which means ___________ or _____________.
RECIPE: Say the item , then de, then the person who possesses (owns).
Ex: John’s dog = The dog of Juan (dog belongs to Juan): El perro de Juan.
Mariana’s books = Los libros de Mariana.
The kids’ dog (belongs to more than 1 kid) El perro de los niños.

Sometimes in English we don’t have an ( ‘S) with possession. Can you think of a time that we don’t use an
( ‘S) but we are still talking about something belonging to someone?

You only need an “s” on the end of the possessive adjective if a plural ITEM comes after. It has nothing to do with how many people own the item.

Expressing the DATE in Spanish.
To say the date, you say it’s the NUMBER (day) of the MONTH.
Use the following phrase: Es el ______ de _________.

To say it’s March 6th = 6th of March = Es el seis de marzo.

You put the numbers in their normal form (dos, tres, ocho), EXCEPT for the FIRST of every month. You say, “el primero” instead of “el uno.”

Comparisons
Use the comparison phrases found in section G of your paquete to compare things in Spanish.
To express the ideas of “more (adjective) than” in English, a lot of times we use -er instead of just saying “more.” Ex: Big, bigger. Tall, taller.
In Spanish you can’t add –er. You have to say “more ___ than” = “más (adj) que.”
Ejemplo: El chico es más guapo que su hermano.
(the boy is MORE handsome THAN his brother)
Mariana is taller than Jacinta = __________________________________________
You can also use it without an adjective as “more than” =
Me gusta correr más que leer. (I like to run more than to read)
I like cookies more than cake = __________________________________________
To say someone is “less (adjective) than,” use “menos (adj) que.”
Ejemplo: La chica es menos simpática que mi amiga.
(The girl is less nice THAN my friend)
The dog is less lazy than the cat. ________________________________________
My friend is less smart than I (not ME!) _____________________________________
To say someone is equal to someone else, you use “as (adj) as” = “tan (adj) como.”
Ejemplo: Paco es tan bajo como Ana.
(Paco is as short as Ana)
My friend is as ugly as your friend. ______________________________________________
If you want to say that something is “as much as” something else, just use “tanto como.”
Ejemplo: ¿Te gusta jugar al fútbol tanto como correr? (Do you like to play soccer as much as run?)

If your comparison is talking about numbers: use DE. Tengo más de cuarenta dólares,
