 Roosevelt Elementary School, Hawthorne, NJPTO MinutesNovember 19, 2020Toni-Ann Raj called the meeting to order at 7:33pm. We held a virtual meeting on Zoom due to social gathering restrictions.Sunday Message - Please read the Sunday message that is sent to you via email. We receive several posts via Facebook asking for information that you already have. Also Erin Gulmy posts the Sunday message via Facebook on Monday morning.TREASURER’S REPORT (Amanda Lupino) Opening Balance $36,350.51. Closing Balance $30,022.23. Approved by Kerry Jordan and Jacky Stonehouse.CORRESPONDENCE & SUNSHINE (Erin Gulmy) Ms. Linda thanked the PTO for all the special things we do.Ms. Portanova thanked the PTO for contacting her regarding the PTO $150 wish list. She also thanked us for the cute thoughtful gift.The PTO wanted to thank Kathy and Tanvi for organizing the staff appreciation event. All the teachers appreciated the gift cards and tee shirts. The teachers have expressed their thanks via facebook, emails and cards.Also the teachers thanked us for all we do to make sure students have the resources and support here at Roosevelt.The PTO sent Flowers to Mrs. Ponte for her upcoming retirement today, and we wish her the very best.1st VP Report (Kelly Parisi) We are collecting $20 from every parent for remote learners. We have many classes that have not submitted money. Please venmo your money to Roospto50@ or if you would like to submit cash or are unable to donate please contact Kelly Paisi.Holiday Parties - If the children are back in school the teacher will be responsible to own the class party. Class parents can not send in a craft for the children to do. Current submissions are down Cherrydale Multi Catalog Fundraiser Samantha Ricart, Jessica Pichardo & Brianna Hoar) This year we combined the Cookie Dough & Holiday Boutique sales together. All virtual sales and online orders only.Sale dates November 16th - November 30th.Delivery Date - scheduled for December 17th,All frozen cookie dough must be shipped to school. All non frozen items can be shipped home and all orders over $75 get free shipping.Other items available are holiday gifts, wrapping paper, snacks, magazines, jewelry and lots of other stuff.Please remember to register your children and share their links with friends and family.You can register your student(s) at . We will be posting every couple of days on all Hawthorne facebook pages every couple of days with new items to help spark interest,Kidstuff Books (Amanda Lupino) We sold 40 kids stuff books with a profit of $500.Give Backs (Kathy Martinez & Rosie Lambert) This is when we pick a date with a business and they will donate back to the PTO a percentage of their income from that day or a certain time frame. Often a flyer has to be shown to the business. We will post more information via Facebook.Spirit Wear (Jacky Stonehouse) All Spirit Wear from Fall has all been handed out. Thank you to Samantha and Amanda for distributing on the front lawn of school. Next event will be in Spring.Staff Appreciation Event (Kathy Martinez & Tanvi Mathews) We could not do an in person luncheon this year but did continue with our traditional tee shirts and gave a $10 gift card to Sunrise Bagels. This year the tee shirts read Roosevelt Teachers Can Do Virtually Anything.We are hoping we can do the Spring luncheon in person.Yearbook (Tania Sanford & Kaitlin Emery) Yearbook is in progress. Please continue sending pictures to roosyearbook@ or Balfour app: project 122017. We need all the pictures we can get. We will also be sending out a survey for the kids to take. Please encourage them to submit their answers. All yearbook orders will be done online this year. More information to follow.Tricky Tray (Amanda Lupino & Samantha Ricart) We are still planning on having our annual tricky tray we will just be adjusting due to covid. We are looking at pushing this out to when the weather is warmer. Directory/Membership (Kaitlin Emery) For the directory this year we will be using Directory Burst and will be notifying everyone once it is up and running.BOARD OF EDUCATION (Abby Goff) The next Board of Education meeting will take place on December 15th and most likely be virtual.PRINCIPAL’S REPORT (Mr. Pisacane) Thanked the PTO for all we do. This year has been a huge challenge and we continue to make school fun and create normalcy. Mrs. Ponte is retiring this year, her last day will be December 1st. We will miss her dearly and wish her the best. We have hired a replacement. Her name is Jenny Charles from PA, and we know she will be great.Elementary schools will start live streaming classes for cohort A and B. This will give us a lot more options to teach our students. It will also allow time in the afternoon to help students that need extra help. Live streaming will be launching after the Thanksgiving Holiday.Mr. Piscane also thanked the PTO for the staff appreciation event. He used his Sunrise Bagel gift card today and it was delicious.Mr. Piscane wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and hopes to see everyone soon in person. OLD BUSINESSShopRite (Amanda Lupino) If you are interested in purchasing a shoprite gift card please send an email to roospto50@ and Amanda will be able to help you out. We had a big uptake in people buying them. We have a new batch of cards coming in a few days. ShopRite is dollar for dollar and the school receives a kick back. Get your cards now for Thanksgiving, Spooktacular Pizza Kits ( Kelly Parisi) These pizza kits were a huge success. We sold 190 pizzas and raised $997. Francesca’s were amazing to work with and we will definitely be running this event again, looking to run on Valentines Day.Jack O'Lantern Carving Contest (Toni-Ann Raj)Virtual Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 votes1st place prize $50 gift card to Blackjack Mulligans. Winner the Baron Family with Unicorn and Friends.2nd place prize $30 gift card to Enza’s. Winner the Picardo Family with the Hungry Pumpkin.3rd place prize $20 gift card to Baking Grace.
