Activity 1: Laws in Special Education

Instructor directions:

Information on special education law is provided to the instructor in the document Introduction to Special Education Policy. In addition, Power Points on IDEA, Section 504 and ADA are also available for class presentations. These materials may be printed and distributed to students for discussion, lectures, or as needed.

This activity may be done as a quiz, with notes for self-review, or in groups to promote discussion. Ask students to fill out the grid with information regarding three major laws: Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

Student directions:
