Brief Summary of Program

This program examines the meaning of foods connected with special occasions in a social, cultural and religious context and how certain foods are associated with planning, presentation and decoration for a variety of special occasions. Symbolism and tradition of foods associated with weddings from a variety of cultures are explored including the significance behind foods served, the association with alcohol and the history of the wedding cake. Special cultural occasions commemorating significant dates and developments over time are examined including the Thanksgiving Day traditions and also that of Christmas from a religious and also a contemporary view.
