COURT SECURITY OFFICER CERTIFICATION

Specification S-20

The following requirements are specified for the certification of Court Security Officers. This specialized training course is for personnel specifically and regularly assigned to court security services. Such certified personnel will be able to accept assignment to court security duties at any court locations.

This special certification empowers personnel to perform court security and related duties only; no general law enforcement authority outside this limited scope of duty is intended nor granted.

Requirements:

1. Be employed by a criminal justice agency, and;

2. Meet the required admission, medical and background standards as prescribed by the Board and the Office of Court Security Services, State of Maine Judicial Department.

3. Successfully complete the Law Enforcement Pre-Service Program.

4. Successfully complete the Court Security Officer Program as approved by the Board. Each student will be required to attend all sessions of the school except for absences approved by the school supervisor. No trainee will be certified when his/her absences exceed ten percent of the total hours of the instruction time.

4. As a requirement for certification as a Court Security Officer each officer must demonstrate competency in the use of his or her department approved firearm. The competency standard will be set by the Board.
