UFC College Sponsorship Program

The transfer student deadline for UFC’s College Sponsorship Program is April 18! Eligible students can receive up to $9,000 for college.

United Friends of the Children is committed to ensuring that current and former foster youth have access to high quality education and the opportunity to pursue their goals. UFC is in search of college transfer students for our College Sponsorship Program and will be selecting five former foster youth to receive support. Recipients receive up to $9,000 in $3,000 disbursements per year for up to 3 years to help with school-related necessities like: books, clothes, dorm fees, computer expenses, transportation, and other living expenses.

Eligibility

• Los Angeles County former foster youth who is transferring from community college to a four-year college or university in the Fall 2008

• Students with a cumulative GPA at or near a 3.0 (2.7+ will be considered)

• Students who are committed to fulfilling their educational goals

Application Process

• A student must either be referred or refer themselves

• Upon receiving a referral, UFC will mail an application packet directly to the student that needs to be completed and returned to us by April 18, 2008. It is the student’s responsibility to complete and return the application packet by the application deadline.

• Students in consideration for the program must maintain contact with our program staff who will guide them through the college acceptance, financial aid and scholarship decision-making process

• Final determinations will be based upon students’ academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership, commitment, personal drive, receptiveness towards program staff and acceptance to a four-year college/university

Referral Process

Please provide the following information when making a referral either by e-mail, fax, or over the phone:

• Student’s Full Name, Address, Phone Number, & Date of Birth

• College & Anticipated Date of Graduation

• Cumulative GPA

• Referring Party’s Name, Phone Number, & Company/Organization

Upon receiving a referral, UFC will mail the application directly to the student. The priority deadline for completed applications is April 9, 2008. The final deadline for completed applications is April 18, 2008.
