Register by May 1st for the 1st session and by the Monday of each week for the rest. See the enclosed flyer for details. -20002521590000Animal Husbandry & Quality Assurance (AH&QA) Training – All Maryland 4-H members enrolled in alpacas, beef, dairy, goats, horse and pony, poultry, sheep, swine and rabbits are required to complete the 4-H Online AH&QA Program to be eligible to exhibit their project animals in 2017 MD County & State 4-H shows. All new animal exhibitors, 4-H’ers aging up into a new age division, 4-H’ers of any age showing one of the above species for the 1st time are all required to take the training. A letter is being sent on 4/19. If you do not receive this letter and think you must take the training, contact the 4-H office right away. Deadline to complete it July 1st. Computers are available in the Extension Office. Dog and Horse ID Cards – must be completed and submitted annually by May 1st. This card designates your project animal(s) for the year, whether owned or leased. You must re-new a card for a previous animal and a new card for a new project animal. Breeding and Performance Leases – Completed Performance and Breeding animal lease forms, with signatures, must be turned in by May 1st for the animal to be considered a 4-H project animal and able to show in 2017 shows. Performance = dogs and horses; Breeding = beef, dairy, swine, goat & sheep breeding stock. Youth can not lease a market animal. 4-H Livestock Weighing & Tagging Date Set - Tuesday May 9th, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Kent Ag Center. 1. All 2017 Market Livestock (sheep, swine and goats), All Commercial Livestock (breeding animals thatright1206500 do not have registration papers), and All feeder steers are required to be tagged on 5/9. 2. 2017 Market Beef & Dairy Steers were weighed and tagged in January. However, exhibitors are welcome to bring steers on 5/9 for a weight check or if tag has fallen out and needs retagging. 3. 4-H'ers do not have to be there, but the animals MUST be present to be weighed & tagged. 4. It would be helpful if everyone did not show up at 5:00 pm but spread out arrival times. 5:00 pm is the busiest time and you will have to wait. Please consider arriving between 6:00 – 6:30 pm. 5. 4 volunteers are needed to help with completing paperwork and helping the vet with papers from 5-7 pm. No experience necessary. Please let me know if you can help. 6. 4-H'ers and parents are asked to help in sorting and tagging animals. 7. Dr. Sherin, from Chestertown Animal Hospital, will be there to do CVI's (Certified Veterinary Inspection) health papers. CVI’s are valid for 120 days providing there is no change in animal status. 8. Beef and Swine need 840 RFID tags in place, and goats need scrapies numbers to get your health papers, otherwise you will need to schedule a vet visit your at your expense. The Livestock sale funds pay for the weigh-in vet visit. MDA tagging requirements are available online at or in hard copy at the Extension Office.
