NJTESOL/NJBE Spring Conference

“Success for ELLs Across the Curriculum”

May 30 and 31, 2012

Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick, New Jersey

Dear Chief School Administrators,

Please share this notification with all teachers, supervisors and administrators who work with current and former English Language Learners. On May 30 and 31, New Jersey Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages / New Jersey Bilingual Educators (NJTESOL/NJBE), the state’s professional association of ESL and bilingual education teachers, will be hosting its annual spring conference at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This conference is the largest New Jersey venue for teachers of ELLs to develop their professional skills. Each year over one thousand teachers attend.

The theme this year is Success for ELLs Across the Curriculum. The conference will feature recognized experts in the field of bilingual and ESL education. On day one of the conference the keynote speakers will be Maria Dove and Andrea Honigsfeld. Their keynote presentation, Common Core Collaborations, will help teachers to develop an understanding of how to best meet the Common Core State Standards with English Language Learners in mind. As a follow-up to their keynote, Dove and Honigsfeld will present an afternoon session titled Co-Teaching for the Common Core which will highlight several collaborative teaching models. On Day Two of the conference, keynote speaker Mary Cappellini will present Balancing Reading and Language Learning. Bonnie Moisan will present Common Core, Objective Driven Lessons, and ELLs. Moisan will demonstrate how to look at Common Core and ELL Standards and apply those targets while preparing concise objective driven lessons. Raquel Sinai and Lori Ramella will present State Initiatives in Bilingual and ESL Education. This yearly update on behalf of the NJDOE offers our members the most current information on state and federal requirements for bilingual, ESL, and Title III of No Child Left Behind. Numerous other workshops will emphasize the best instructional practices relevant to helping ELLs become proficient in English and in meeting the Core Curriculum and Common Core standards.

I strongly urge all districts to consider sponsoring their teachers to attend this conference and to participate in this professional development opportunity. For more information about the conference, please contact NJTESOL/NJBE at the website njtesol-. Conference registration online is at or you may use the registration form below:
