RE: Benefits 2020 Annual Open Enrollment

Dear:

Springfield Public Schools’ 2020 annual Open Enrollment period will be held October 28, 2019 through November 15, 2019. Open Enrollment is the time to enroll in or make changes to your current health, dental, and/or vision insurance elections. If you did not elect coverage during your first year of retirement, you are not eligible to elect a new line of coverage. If you are enrolled in the district’s group medical plans, participants have the ability to elect the group plan that best fits their needs at open enrollment each year. Elections made during Open Enrollment will become effective January 1, 2020. If you are satisfied with your current health, dental, and/or vision insurance elections, you do not need to take any action and your coverage will remain intact.

During this Open Enrollment, SPS will be hosting various events. The events are listed below along with a brief description and the date/time of each session.

Medical Premiums Changing; Dental and Vision Premiums Unchanged

The medical insurance premium will increase on 1/01/2020. This is the first premium increase the medical plan has seen in over six (6) years and is necessary to ensure the Health Benefits Trust fund is financially sustainable. We are pleased to inform you that there are no increases in monthly premiums for dental insurance and vision insurance for 2020. If you are satisfied with your current health, dental, and/or vision insurance elections, you do not need to take any action and your coverage will remain intact.

Annual Notices

SPS is required to send a variety of annual health plan notices to you. The annual notices are enclosed. If you have any questions about the annual notices, please contact HR Services at 523-GOHR (4647).

Availability of Summary Health Information

The SPS Employee Health Plan makes available a Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC), which summarizes important information about any health coverage option in a standard format, to help you compare across options. In addition, a uniform Glossary of Health Coverage and Medical Terms is also made available as a resource to you. Both documents are available on the SPS website (About SPS/Departments/Human Resources/Benefits). A paper copy is also available, free of charge, by calling HR Services at 523-GOHR (4647).
