ST. JOSEPH COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY

ONEKAMA FOOD BANK

• Food Pantry distributes food on the last Friday of the month with exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas, when it is held the Friday before the holiday. Hours are between 10 a.m. and noon and people enter the church building around the back. Volunteers help distribute the food.

• Volunteers also help unload the truck and set up food on the tables in the church basement on the day before the Food Pantry distributes the food (Thursday). Unloading occurs from 10-12am.

• Additional volunteers are always appreciated and encouraged, especially to unload the truck. All you need to do is show up and ask anyone how you can help!

• Food Pantry has been in existence since 1992, and initially served 42 families from Manistee County.

• Food Pantry now serves between 120-180 families from Manistee County.

• Food is bought at 16 cents per pound from N.W. Gleaners Food Bank in Cadillac.

• Food expenses run between $800-$1,200 per month. During November and December, costs run between $1,000-$2,500. The cost is up in these months due to distribution of turkeys in November and hams in December.

• Community members also donate Christmas gifts for needy children, from ages 0-12 years old, from tags taken off “Giving Trees”. Gifts are wrapped and distributed during the December food pantry.

• Canned goods and monetary donations are accepted. Monetary donations go farther due to reduced food prices granted to us by N.W. Gleaners Food Bank. No clothing please.

• The pantry has been very fortunate with all donations. Donations are made by individual families, businesses, organizations, and other community churches.

• If you can help, PLEASE BE GENEROUS
