ADDITIONAL CAPUCHIN FORMATION HOUSE TO BE BLESSED

Chicago, IL (August 14, 2008) – The Capuchin Province of St. Joseph is celebrating the blessing of an additional formation house, St. Agnes of Prague, located on Chicago’s south side.

Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, auxiliary Bishop of Chicago and Capuchin provincial minister, John Celichowski, will be present for the August 31, 4 pm, liturgy.

Designed by Liturgical Design Consultant and Capuchin friar Mark Joseph Costello, the new formation house was built specifically to provide housing and chapel for the province’s increasing vocation candidates.

The Capuchin province currently has 15 postulants, novices, and first

professed friars in its formation program. Resident candidates will also be living

in the friary in Chicago.

The Capuchins are an international community of friars modeling themselves

after St. Francis of Assisi. The brothers of the Capuchin Province of St.

Joseph, headquartered in Detroit serve in a variety of ministries including

social service, schools, chaplaincy, retreat houses and parishes in Michigan,

Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, Minnesota, New Mexico, Arizona,

California, Nicaragua, and Panama. Established at Mt. Calvary Wisconsin in

1857, there are currently 184 members in the St. Joseph province.
