Columbia student featured at Big Brothers Big Sisters media Roundtable

On Tuesday, October 19th, 2010, Columbia Elementary student Jamesha, and Principal Crystal Gale, participated in a media roundtable at Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. KSDK’s Mike Bush, Fox 2’s Mandy Murphey, and KMOV’s Vickie Newton were the featured guests invited to meet Jamesha and her Big Sister Tracey. Also joining them were Principal Gale, Jamesha‘s mother, and Gianna Farr, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Director of Impact at Columbia Elementary.

Jamesha and her Big Sister Tracy were the first chosen for “Bright Spot”, a new initiative Big Brothers Big Sisters launched to recognize successful relationships that are having a real impact on students’ lives. Jamesha and Tracy talked about how much their friendship has meant to them and the impact it has had in both of them. Matched for almost three years, Tracy and Jamesha like to do everything from homework to just hanging out! They have become family.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters has a strong partnership with Columbia Elementary and the St. Louis Public Schools. Their organization has served as a great resource for schools, in addition to numerous SLPS families. Jamesha and Tracey’s relationship is not only a “Bright Spot” for BBBS, but for Columbia as well.
