Soldan Thanks BJC and IBM for Educational Program

BJC School Outreach & Youth Development joined with Soldan International Studies High School, the BJC Center for LifeLong Learning and IBM to educate students about keeping their bodies healthy, learning more about nutrition and preventing Type 2 diabetes.

Last school year, BJC School Outreach introduced an interactive diabetes education series as part of the Soldan health class curriculum to sophomore, junior and senior students. One of the most popular sessions turned out to be a videoconference between the students in the classroom, led by moderator and health educator Kristin Cunningham, and St. Louis Children’s Hospital diabetes nurse educator Anne Fitz, NP, who taught students from a BJC Center for LifeLong Learning classroom across town at the BJC Learning Institute. Dr. Alice Manus, Vice Principal at Soldan, stated, “We would like to see this program return and be expanded to all health classes. It made the subject of health relevant, applicable and meaningful to our students, and they were engaged throughout the series.”
