St. Louis Collegiate, whose mission is to educate students in grades five through twelve for college success through mastery of rigorous academic content and development of sound character, proposes to bring the benefits of a rigorous college-preparatory academic program to North St. Louis’ most underserved communities. Based on successful elements of high performing urban charter schools serving a similar population and with similar missions, St. Louis Collegiate’s design is informed by proven models of educational excellence. The goals of St. Louis Collegiate include developing student proficiency and improvement in reading and writing the English language and content knowledge and skills in mathematics, science, and social studies, as well as preparing students for successful graduation from college.

St. Louis Collegiate aims to contribute to research, public policy, and practice concerning the success of charter schools that employ programmatic flexibility in exchange for increased accountability by generating and disseminating quantifiable evidence of high levels of student academic achievement and the associated best practices. As such, this project application, if approved for planning, program design, and initial implementation of St. Louis Collegiate, will fulfill the purpose of the Charter Schools Program by contributing to national understanding of the charter schools model and increasing the number of high quality charter schools available to our Nation’s students.
