ADORATION

The Hagios

Love for Jesus in the Tabernacle

At his birth Jesus lacks even the cradle of a

poor child. At times with his disciples he has

nowhere to lay his head. He will die in absolute

poverty, with his very clothing stripped from him.

But when his dead body is taken down from the

cross and handed over to those who remain close to

him, to those who care for him, it is treated with

veneration, respect and love. Joseph of Arimathea

will buy a fine new linen shroud to wrap the body

in, and Nicodemus the spices they need. St. John,

perhaps surprised, tells us of the lavish quantity of

these spices, about a hundred pounds* weight.

They did not bury him in the common graveyard,

but in a garden, in a new tomb, probably the one

Joseph had made for himself. And the women saw

the tomb and saw where He was laid. When they

return to the city they prepare more spices. When

the body of Jesus is in the hands of those who love

Him, they rival one another in showing the

greatness of their love for him.

Jesus is alive in our Tabernacles, just as He

was in Bethlehem or on Calvary. He surrenders

himself to our love to be cared for, to be looked

after with the very best we can offer, at the cost of

our time, our money, our effort, in fact, of our love.

In the unveiling of the holy cross during the Good Friday liturgy, a beautiful and most ancient hymn is sung in

Greek and Latin: Hagios O Theos, Hagios Ischyros, Hagios

Athanatos, Eleison Imas (Greek) and then Latin; Sanctus Deus,

Sanctus Fortis, Sanctus Immortalis Miserere Nobis, Translated,

this means Holy God, Holy mighty one, Holy immortal one have

mercy on us.

The history of this hymn is told by St. John Damascus

in the 8th century: ※Now, those who have compiled the history of

the church relate how once, when Proculys was archbishop, the

people of Constantinople were making public in treaty to avert

some threat of the divine wrath, and it happened that a child was

taken up out of the crowd by some angelic choir masters was

taught the thrice holy hymn after following fashion:* Holy God,

holy mighty one, holy immortal one have mercy on us.* When

the child came back again and told what he had been taught, the

whole crowd saying that hymn and the threat was averted. And it

is traditional that the that the thrice holy hymn was also sung in

this manner at the holy and great fourth ecumenical council...Therefore, The Thrice Holy song, being taught by the angels

and sung first of all by the Seraphim to express the Godhead in

three persons...Though the demons may burst, we too shall say in

this way: Hagios O Theos, Hagios ischyros, Hagios Athanatos,

Eleison Imas.§

From The Office Of Bishop Vetter

March 3, 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I come to you as your Bishop, concerning the COVID-19 vaccines. I know that there are many questions out

there and I want to provide you with important information and clarity regarding these vaccines as you make an

informed choice.

While each vaccine has been morally compromised to some level, it is not wrong to take the vaccine. All things

being equal, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are the preferred choice. But the Johnson and Johnson vaccine may be

used when all things are not equal, like an allergy to the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or availability.

Below is a document from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops with links to other reputable

resources on the COVID-19 vaccines.

I encourage everyone to get vaccinated, It can be an act of charity that serves the common good. Ultimately, the

decision to vaccinate is up to you decide based on your own formed conscience.

These are difficult times, but let*s support each other and remain calm. Please know of my prayers for each of

you.

In Christ, I am

Most Reverend Austin A. Vetter

Bishop of Helena

U.S. Bishop Chairmen for Doctrine and for Pro-Life

Address the Use of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 Vaccine

WASHINGTON 〞 On March 2, Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, chairman of the U.S.

Conference of Catholic Bishops* (USCCB) Committee on Doctrine, and Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City

in Kansas, chairman of

the USCCB*s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, issued a statement on the Johnson & Johnson COVID-l 9 vaccine

recently approved for use in the United States.

※The approval of Johnson & Johnson*s COVID-19 vaccine for use in the United States again raises questions about the

moral permissibility of using vaccines developed, tested, and/or produced with the help of abortion-derived cell lines.

Pfizer and Moderna*s vaccines raised concerns because an abortion-derived cell line was used for testing them, but not

in their production. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, however, was developed, tested and is produced with abortionderived cell lines raising additional moral concerns. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has judged that

&when ethically irreproachable Covid-19 vaccines are not available ... it is morally acceptable to receive Covid-19

vaccines that have used cell lines from aborted fetuses in their research and production process. However, if one can

choose among equally safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, the vaccine with the least connection to abortion-derived

cell lines should be chosen. Therefore, if one has the ability to choose a vaccine, Pfizer or Modema*s vaccines should be

chosen over Johnson & Johnson*s.

While we should continue to insist that pharmaceutical companies stop using abortion-derived cell lines, given the

world-wide suffering that this pandemic is causing, we affirm again that being vaccinated can be an act of charity that

serves the common good.

For further details, we refer people to our earlier December 2020 statement, to our Answers to Key Ethical Questions

About COVID-19 Vaccines, to the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith*s Note, and to the statement of the Vatican

Covid-19 Commission in collaboration with the Pontifical Academy for Life.
