Engineering specifications for exhaust system

Engineering specifications for engine exhaust system:

Scope:

Provide an exhaust system comprised of a stainless steel flexible connector, exhaust silencer, flexible expansion joint(s), thimble, raincap and associated hardware as specified herein and as shown on plans. Exhaust components shall be as manufactured by Miratech Group, Prior Lake, MN.

Performance:

Exhaust silencer shall provide minimum ___dB insertion loss at 500HZ frequency, and shall not exceed 70% of the maximum engine exhaust backpressure allowance. A sizing report by the exhaust silencer manufacturer shall be provided, and shall include the proposed insertion loss and pressure drop data for the silencer, as applied to the proposed engine. It is the contractor’s responsibility to ensure that the entire exhaust system, inclusive of exhaust piping, does not exceed the engine’s total backpressure allowance. The exhaust piping shall be routed to the exterior of the building, with any combustible wall or combustible roof penetration fitted with an NFPA-compliant wall or roof thimble. The exhaust piping’s exterior termination shall be include a 45° cut and bird screen (for horizontal outlets), or a stainless steel rain cap (for vertical outlets). Refer to mechanical plans for details.

Silencer shall be equipped with a condensation drain valve, and the contractor shall pipe a drain line as indicated on plans. The engine exhaust flexible connector shall include a 321-grade stainless steel flexible hose section, and be of a minimum 18” overall length. Stainless steel, T321 grade, 2-ply expansion joints (bellows) shall be used where the exhaust pipe changes directions.
