Stanley Kubrick (July 26, 1928 – March 7, 1999) was an influential and acclaimed American film director and producer. He also won an Academy Award for Special Effects. Kubrick became interested in still photography at an early age. On graduating from high school he worked for the primarily photographic magazine Look, first as a freelance and then as a staff photographer. His first foray into cinema was directing several promotional and documentary shorts for RKO Pictures, most of which were solely financed and filmed by Kubrick, himself.
