Name: ___________________Date: __________________Current Reading & Math LevelsWe have been busy with many assessments over the last few weeks. You most likely have not seen many graded papers. Because we try to work in small groups during reading, many of our assessments are done with me orally instead of with paper and pencil. Please read below to see where your child is currently performing in reading and math. When you are finished discussing the results with your child, please sign on the back and return to school.Your child is reading __________________ grade level.(significantly below, slightly below, below, on, above)STAR Early Literacy Score ______Students are expected to earn a 775 or higher on this test. The score of 775 predicts that the student is a probable reader. He or she is proficient at recognizing many words in and out of context. Probable readers can blend sounds and word parts to read more quickly, smoothly and independently. STAR Reading LevelThis is equivalent to grade level. A child performing on grade level would have a 2.0, 2.1., 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4 score. A child below grade level would have a score beginning with a 0 or 1. A child working above grade level would have a score that is 2.5 or greater. The STAR reading level is one way of measuring how well your child understands what he or she reads. Fry List Level ______The Fry words are the 1,000 most common words in the English language. Children in second grade should be ready for list 3. If a child is working on list 1 or list 2, they are performing below grade level in word identification. Some children can read a list of words at a level 3 or higher but still have difficulty comprehending what they are reading. STAR Math Level _____This is equivalent to grade level. A child performing on grade level would have a 2.0, 2.1., 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4 score. A child below grade level would have a score beginning with a 0 or 1. A child working above grade level would have a score that is 2.5 or greater. The STAR math level is one way of measuring how well your child understands what he or she reads.Running Record Level _____A running record is a one-on-one assessment done between a teacher and student. The student is given a passage to read while the teacher keeps track of the student’s reading. Students at the beginning of second grade are expected to be at a level K, L, M or N. Students reading at an aa, A or B are reading at a kindergarten level. Students reading at a C, D, E or F are reading at a beginning first grade level. Students reading at a G, H, I or J are reading at an end of year first grade level. Each score gives us a piece of information about your child’s academic level. We use these scores as a way of monitoring progress throughout the school year. If your child is performing below grade level, the best thing you can do to help is read together each evening. In the classroom we will be working to improve levels. I need your support in expecting the best from your child every day. I have read and discussed the results with my child ________________________________________.(parent signature) ................
