On the Heels of "Fall Festival," Shangri-La Offers Exciting Events and Winter Hours of Operation

By Barry Willingham, President & CEO Shangri-La Golf Club Resort & Marina

There is still plenty of great weather ahead of us this fall to enjoy Shangri-La!

I have to tell you, I was absolutely astonished at the fantastic turnout for the 3rd Annual ShangriLa Fall Festival, especially since the weather dictated a last minute change of location! We had a great time hosting kids of all ages from throughout the Grand Lake community. The evening was great, the music was great, the costumes were great, and the haunted house was plenty scary ? it was a very fun evening. I hope you had a chance to enjoy it with us.

With the departure of Daylight Saving Time, new winter

hours of operation are in effect a all Shangri-La venues. Doc's Bar & Grill will continue to be open for three meals a day, seven days a week (6:30 a.m.9:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 6:30 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Friday & Saturday). The bar at Doc's will remain open later, depending on demand.

The biggest change in operation through the winter will be at the Summit Restaurant. There will be no lunch service, and dinner service will be available Friday-Monday each week.

Friday & Saturday dinner service will be limited to members and resort guests only, but we will open the Summit to the general public for Sunday and Monday night dinner service throughout the winter. Chef Mike has prepared a fantastic new menu for our restaurant venues, as well. Live Entertainment at the Summit

To enhance those great winter evening dinner parties at The Summit, we will now offer Saturday & Sunday musical en-

tertainment to accompany your meal. I am excited to tell you that famed grand lake entertainer Terry Jordan will be at the keyboards Saturday & Sunday evenings throughout the winter at The Summit. Terry has such a huge following in the Grand Lake area, I'm sure you will enjoy his incredible talent often throughout the months to come. Golf, Marina, Turn House

The marina will be open six days a week throughout the winter months (9:005:00 Monday-Saturday) offering fuel service, snacks, apparel, and boating supplies. Effective November 3, the marina will be closed on Sundays until Spring.

The Golf Shop is open 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily throughout the coming months; and the menu and drink offerings will be enhanced at the Turn House which is also open from 8:00-5:00 daily. Great Events at Shangri-La in November

Just because it is November, that doesn't mean the fun slows down at ShangriLa. In addition to Terry Jordan's weekly entertainment at The Summit and our regular "Trivia, Tacos & Tequila Tuesday," at Doc's, along with our "Thursday Night Karaoke & Shrimp Boil" (except Thanksgiving night), we have some great special events over the next few weeks.

Chef Mike is offering four fun cooking classes this month ? every Saturday except November 23. Classes include cooking lessons, the meal you prepare, a written recipe and, of course a cash bar. Classes are $25 each. Contact Katelin Threet to sign up (918 -257-7720).

Saturday, November 16 is our annual "Festivus for the Rest of Us" party from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. at the Golf Shop. This evening of wine, beer, appetizers and camaraderie offers you the opportunity to win huge discounts on wonderful Christmas gifts, along with free gift wrapping. If you need to order something for that special Christmas gift, this

event gives you plenty of time. Friday, November 29, we will once

again provide the opportunity for you to get over the "Thanksgiving Turkey Blahs" by ignoring your leftovers and joining us at the Summit for our popular "Black Friday Seafood Buffet." The culinary crew goes all out for this special buffet!

Looking ahead to December, mark you calendars for the return of the famed "Shangri-La Winter Gala" which will be held Saturday evening, December 14 in the Roosevelt Ballroom at our resort hotel. The next day, plan to join us at the Summit for our annual "Sunday Brunch with Santa." Plan to bring the little ones and your camera, because Santa will be on hand for photos.

New Year's Eve members are urged to join us for our annual "New Year's Eve Wine Dinner," featuring exquisite cuisine paired with the finest wines to ring in the New Year! Membership Drive

Our Shangri-La Fall Membership Drive is underway ? and that can mean money in your pocket. Any member who brings a new Golf Member into the Shangri -La family will receive a $1,000 credit at the club. If you help sign up a new Resort Member, I'll give you a $500 credit. I know every member knows someone who would be a great addition to our club. And remember, when we get 100 additional Golf Members, we'll start work on that new Par 3 Course. The timing is up to you. Activity Park Plans

We are finalizing the engineering and design work and we hope to break ground within the next few weeks for our new $5 million Activity Park adjacent to our resort hotel. Outdoor facilities will include tennis courts, pickleball courts, basketball, sand volleyball, bocce ball, croquet and a fantastic mini-Fenway Park for whiffle ball fun.

The 10,000 square foot in-

Popular entertainer Terry Jordan will be at the keyboards every Saturday & Sunday evening to entertain diners at The Summit Restaurant. During the winter, the Summit will be open for dinner service only during winter hours - Friday & Saturday for members and hotel guests only, and will be open to the public Sunday &

Monday evenings.

door facility will include golf simulators, skeet-shooting simulators, pool tables, ping pong, shuffleboard, a couple of bowling lanes, arcade games, pop-a-shot basketball, a 50-seat theater for movies and video conferencing, Coffee Barista and Pastry Shop (who needs Starbuck's?) and, of course, a bar ? a world class indooroutdoor bar. We haven't forgotten the little ones, either. A state-of-the-art playground for kids is also part of the plan. The Activity Park is going to be an unbelievable addition to available amenities for our members at Shangri-La. Join the Shangri-La Community!

We continue to be excited about our residential real estate ventures at ShangriLa as more and more people decide this is a wonderful full-time entertainment atmosphere for their families. The only remaining home left in the Gallery is the furnished Model Home on lot #13. Come check out this beautiful gated community directly across from the clubhouse! We also have one home for sale in Pointe Marin, adjacent to the Shangri-La resort hotel.

In our newest residential development, The Ridge at Shangri-La, nine new homes are complete and occupied and another sold home is currently under construction. We have a model home ready for touring any time ? and four spec homes ready for immediate move-in. If you or someone you know is interested in making the Shangri-La lifestyle a permanent lifestyle, please contact Coldwell Banker Shangri-La Realty to view our current inventory or design a new home! It is absolutely free ? and it's a great way to stay current with ShangriLa's special offerings and events as well as current events and weather conditions. Dock Talk

by Phillip Cunningham, Shangri-La Marina Manager

Shangri-La Marina remains open Monday-Saturday from 9:00-5:00. Closed Sunday.

It's that time of the year. With the departure of Daylight Saving Time, darkness arrives earlier and the weather also tends to turn chilly without much warning. The foliage is spectacular, to be sure, but earlier darkness and colder weather means we all must be prepared. Please Schedule Winterization NOW

If your boat is not equipped with bilge heat for use in the winter, please contact Nichols Marine immediately and schedule the winterization of your boat. If you are still using your boat, but you have an idea when you will finish your boating for the year, go ahead and schedule your winterization right now. Generally, boaters are safe until around November 15 ? at least ? but, technicians certainly cannot winterize everyone's boat in one day when that first "freeze warning" forecast comes across the television screen. If you're not finished, please join us on the water. If you ARE finished for the season, or if you know a date when you WILL be finished, contact Nichols Marine at 918-257-5500 and schedule your winterization with Tyler Sourjohn.

Nichols Marine does not work on personal watercraft. If you are ready to winterize your PWC and do not already have contacts with a personal watercraft technician, there are two Grand Lake businesses who are very familiar with the layout of our marina. Contact either Randy's Watercraft at 918-782-2336 or Dick Lane's of Grand Lake at (918) 782-2553 to schedule winterization of your PWC. Marina Winterization and New Hours of Operation

With the end of Daylight Saving Time Sunday, November 3, Shangri-La Marina will begin new winter hours of operation. We are here for our customers year-round with gasoline, diesel, apparel, boating supplies, and snacks. However, effective November 3, the marina will be closed on Sunday throughout the winter. New hours of operation for the winter are Monday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Like boats, our marina is subject to damage from extended hard freezes, and we must winterize the marina including disconnection of water systems on the docks. If we are unexpectedly hit with a lengthy spell of subfreezing temperatures, that will dictate our winterization schedule. However, we will winterize the marina no later than Friday, November 15. After

that date, there will be no water service on the docks and no pump-out service at the fuel dock until spring.

Please plan accordingly. If you need a pump-out prior to winterization of your boat, please be sure that it is handled prior to November 15. Similarly, if you need water at your slip for flushing systems or cleaning, you will need to utilize the water on the docks prior to November 15. Slip Availability

Shangri-La Marina is close to capacity, but we do have a handful of available slips ? 24, 28, 32, 40, and 50 feet in length.

If you know someone who may like to join the Shangri-La family and are looking for a place to keep their boat, remember that slip renters at Shangri-La Marina may also join the growing membership at Shangri-La Golf Club & Resort without paying any initiation fee. Boat Sales

Boat sales through the month of October have been very good. Smart buyers know this is the very best time of the year to purchase a new boat. With the boat show season getting underway this month with the granddaddy of them all ? the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (which is now underway) ? manufacturers are offering special deals on the 2020 models that will be formally introduced to buyers this month; and they are also offering extra incentives to sell new boats that are still in dealer inventory.

The Boat Sales dock adjacent to the slip store is now full of a variety of new boats ranging in size from 25 -feet to 38-feet ? and we have additional models in a land display at the marina including Chaparral and Chris-Craft boats, Robalo center console boats, Vortex jet boats, MasterCraft wakeboard/wake surf boats, and the popular Bennington pontoons and tritoons. Nichols Marine also offers Ranger, Triton, and Vexus bass boats.

If the need for accommodations for your boat includes the need for a lift, remember that Shangri-La Marina is one of the largest dealers for popular HydroHoist Boat Lifts. Ship Store Operation

Come check out the bargains available in the Ship Store. We have a great selection of T-shirts and tank tops for all ages, including some really fun "monkeythemed" tees for kids. With the arrival of cooler weather, we also have long-sleeved T-shirts, jackets, and rain gear. Hoodies are on the way. Our fuel dock remains open throughout the year, but please remember that our pump-out station will be closed for the winter beginning November 15.

The boating season isn't over. It's just a NEW boating season with different conditions. The Shangri-La Marina staff is here to help with a great supply of snacks, candy bars, ice cream treats, footwear, apparel, hats, caps, and a range of boating supplies. Come join the fun!

Please let me know if there is any way we can make your boating experience more enjoyable.

Early this year, my wife and I decided to take an extended trip to Europe in March of this year for our wedding anniversary, and to visit my relatives in Switzerland. We returned to the states in May and in September, I got the call from Shangri-La Resort," he says.
