The Gabriel House
History
The inspiration for the Gabriel House came during an outreach mission trip. Renie Faver began to see handicapped children and realized their desperate situation. Some were unable to walk, crawling around in the dirt. Some had to fight the camp’s dogs for scraps of food. All were dirty and neglected. They were a shame to their families who thought having a child like this was a disgrace. They were abused in terrible ways and not regarded as the precious gifts that they were intended to be. Renie wanted to take them all home, but Ted, being more practical, allowed only one baby at a time. After 4 years, Ted and Renie discovered Gabriel, a mentally handicapped eight year old boy kept in a cage by his parents. Gabriel also had nightly seizures so he was tied into a feed sack so he couldn’t injure himself during seizures. Ted took one look at the situation and said, “Well, he sure can’t live here,” and Gabriel House was born.
Mission
Gabriel House is a non-profit Christian residential home located outside Ensenada in Baja California, Mexico and is dedicated to the total care and rehabilitation of profoundly handicapped children and children with immune deficiency disorders. Gabriel House strives to extend hope and dignity to the children at no cost to their impoverished families.
Today
Gabriel House has grown to its present day population of 35+ children. A wing for AIDS babies has been added along with a center for Downs Syndrome. Gabriel House is now bursting at the seams and has recently constructed a new dorm for the boys.

Gabriel House is named after Gabriel Raul. He was the first child taken in by Ted and Renie. Raul has settled in at last – he no longer yells and will now go on walks.
Sergio is always a favorite as he is quick to interact. He loves the trampoline and hanging out with the boys.
Victor has also changed over the years. He started out being very quiet and watchful. He now shows off his personality with smiles, laughter, and even jokes.
