I know some of you also have coconut allergies or you're just tired of eating too many coconut products to replace everything else, so there's a dedicated list of coconut-free AIP dessert recipes as well below.

Want to know more about the AIP diet?

The AIP (autoimmune paleo protocol) diet is a stricter version of Paleo that's designed to help many people with autoimmune conditions. Certain foods like nuts, seeds, nightshades, and eggs are removed for several months and then gradually introduced over time to determine remaining sensitivity. For more information about the AIP diet, check out this comprehensive article.

Why do these AIP dessert recipes not have vanilla extract?

There are several versions of the AIP diet, and we've tried to ensure these AIP dessert recipes complies with them all. In particular, the version that Sarah Ballantyne recommends

in The Paleo Approach is very strict ? it recommends avoiding vanilla (including vanilla extract) initially as well as chocolate, nutmeg, and various other spices and sugars.

So most recipes in this list comply with Sarah Ballantyne's version but there are 2 additional lists at the bottom that contain AIP dessert recipes that comply with Sarah Ballantyne's version except that the recipe includes vanilla extract or coconut sugar.

An option for those AIP dessert recipes is to omit the vanilla or to use a different sugar.
