Your weekly news & updates

The other day I was talking to someone from another church and they asked me this question: "What kind of worship does your church have?" Now, I know what they were really asking, which revolved more around the m usic than anything else. But, it got m e thinking. How do we worship? Over this m onth I want to explore just four ways that we worship God. Maybe they will be familiar to you, maybe they are new. But, what I hope m ost of all is that your understanding of worship goes beyond what style of m usic or service we have on Sunday morning. John 4:23-24 says, "But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit and those who worship him m ust worship in spirit and truth." (NRSV) From this passage one can see that true worship is not relegated to holy places but rather exudes from a holy person. To live in the spirit and to truly own your faith brings with it holy worship. So no matter what you do, when you do it in the power of God's Spirit you are a true worshiper. This true worshiper fulfillment also looks to completeness in the future. So, may you go and in whatever you do, do it by the leading of God's Spirit and worship at all times and in all things. Iowa's children, especially those in poverty.

Change a Child's Story

The right to literacy belongs to all people. A child's early years are critically important. The Conference has recently launched a reading initiative called "Change a Child's Story" to challenge Iowa United Methodists to donate one million children's books and one million volunteer hours of reading to

As a St. Paul's member you can volunteer your time to read aloud to a child and help that child read aloud to you. There are volunteer opportunities during the Fall at nearby Johnson STEAM Academy. This involves reading to kindergarteners through 3rd graders during school hours; or reading to any elementary grade (your choice) in the after-school program in the late afternoon.

Reading aloud to a child can truly change their life forever. Please help us change a child's story. A sign-up table is in the hallway on Sundays, September 10th and 17th.
