Starbucks Legal Team Recognizes Finnegan for Commitment to Diversity

SEATTLE (May 19, 2009) - Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ:SBUX) today honored intellectual property law firm Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP with its first annual Starbucks Excellence in Diversity Award for 2008. The award, sponsored by Starbucks Law and Corporate Affairs team, recognizes Finnegan for its work to strengthen diversity - both within the firm and throughout the legal profession.

"In Starbucks Mission Statement and Guiding Principles, we express our commitment to embracing diversity and creating a place where each of us can be ourselves," said Paula Boggs, Starbucks executive vice president, Law and Corporate Affairs. "We are proud to recognize Finnegan Henderson for living up to the spirit of this commitment with their inclusive approach to diversity."

Finnegan, a leading intellectual property law firm, has worked with Starbucks since 2002, and has consistently ranked as one of the nation's top law firms for minority and overall diversity. In the 2008 Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms, Finnegan ranked in the top 15 percent for lawyer diversity. The firm's diversity efforts include an annual diversity scholarship, mentorship program, and work with law schools and associations focused on developing minority and women lawyers.

"Treating everyone fairly and with respect has been a part of Finnegan's culture from our beginnings more than 40 years ago - just as it has at Starbucks," said Keith Earley, Finnegan Director of Diversity and Inclusion.

"We are honored that Starbucks recognized us for our commitment to diversity," said Julia Matheson, a trademark partner at the firm, who accepted the award on the firm's behalf. "We look forward to living up to the award and to continuing to expand our commitment to a diverse workplace."
