If you're a coffee buff, then you'll probably agree that there's really no `substitute' for coffee - coffee is just coffee. But there are alternatives that while they won't give you the buzz, are healthy and delicious, and can get you through this program coffee-free.

Here's a list of choices:

? TEECHINO (or other) "coffee" - made with roasted roots like chicory and dandelion don't curl your nose `til you try it! These herbs were known to pioneers in the US who couldn't afford coffee as `poor man's coffee' because of their rich roasted coffee-like flavor.

? CH AI TEA: Decaf chai tea is available and delicious, especially with unsweetened coconut or almond milk. It does have some caffeine, but much less than coffee and regular chai. If you're needing the caffeine, you can drink a regular chai. But you MUST make it at home - chai from places like Starbucks are loaded with simple syrup or sugar.

? CH AI GO LDEN MILK: Below is a delicious chai tea recipe that you can try today to start incorporating as a coffee alternative or simply a delicious tea.

CHAI GOLDEN MILK I N G R E D I E N T S :

? 2 tsp. fresh grated turmeric root or 1 heaping tsp. turmeric powder ? 1 tsp. fresh grated ginger ? 1 cinnamon stick ? ? tsp cardamom powder ? 1 green tea bag or 2 tsp. green tea leaves (optional if you're wanting the

caffeine) ? 2 cups of coconut or almond milk TO PREPARE:

Bring cup of water to a boil and turn off. Add the spices, keeping the green tea aside and steep for 10 minutes. Add the green tea or tea bag to the water and steep 5 minutes more. Strain, and if you'd like it hot add the liquid back to the pot bringing it to a simmer. Pour into a cup and add coconut milk or almond milk in the amount you like in your tea.

Alternatively you can use coconut milk or almond milk instead of the water, lightly simmering the spices in it for 10 minutes, turning off the heat and adding the green tea straining all and enjoying after another 5 minutes of steeping.

Drink 1 to 2 cups daily as a beverage One cup now and again is also safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding If you'd prefer a simpler route, use one tea bag of any good-quality chai tea and combine with one heaping tsp. of Gaia Herbs Golden Milk powder and prepare as directed on the package

? H ERBAL TEA: Okay, it's not coffee - but the plant world has brought us much more than just coffee beans! There are so many wonderful herbal teas on the market now - from relaxing and sleepy blends, to spicy blends, fruity blends, and old classics like peppermint and ginger teas. All are fair game in the course. I prefer ones that don't have any added flavors (look on the label).

? VEG GIE OR BONE BRO TH: Broth is a wonderful warm beverage that we tend to forget! Use the veggie broth recipe in the Week 2 meal plan, or purchase low sodium organic veggie or bone broth.

? G REEN TEA: Green tea does have caffeine, but it's also loaded with healthy plant chemicals that fight inflammation and it's also healthy for your mind and a mood pick-me-up. So if you're looking for caffeine but want her gentler sister - try some green tea. There are endless varieties to experiment with - and a little lemon added can make it a surprisingly delightful hot (or cold!) beverage.

If you're sticking with no alcohol during our challenge together (whoot!), you can

? Order sparkling water with lemon or lime, or if you want to go big - a splash of pomegranate or cranberry juice - unsweetened if the bar has it. No one will be the wiser if you're wanting to keep your secret to yourself.

IF YOU DO SPLURGE ON "A DRINK"

? Stick to one drink ? Sip slowly ? Tito's vodka and Agave tequila are the best choice - they are gluten free, have the lowest

sugar, and are the lowest calorie ? Cut with sparkling water ? Ask that they have no simple sugar added ? If you do have red wine, keep it to one glass, or if you want to be social and sip through

the evening, ask for a half glass, and a half glass refill later on ? Sip slowly
