Fundraising A to Z

A

Ask everyone you meet: Always carry a supporter/donation form with you so when you talk to people about the Walk Against Hunger, you can ask them to donate right then. Makes sure the top few donations on the form are significant as others are likely to follow suit. Conversely, if you start with a $2 donation at the top, others will probably do the same. And remember, you can't get what you don't ask for! You can access the supporter/donation form from your online participant center.

Auctions: Hold a live or silent auction for various items. BE CREATIVE! How about a primo parking space at work; an extra half day off (get permission from the boss first!); a picnic lunch prepared by your coworkers; or other items like collectibles or sports memorabilia.

B

Backyard Movie Night: Who wants to spend $15 on a movie ticket and another $10 for popcorn and a soda at the movie theater?? Host a backyard movie night by projecting your movie onto a white sheet or a big blank wall. Lay out inflatable furniture and lots of blankets and pillows! Or course you'll charge for snacks and admission, but they will be reasonably priced ? and for a great cause!

Bake Sale: Bake lots of homemade goodies and sell them at work or at a busy place (Walmart, church, etc.). Birthday Gifts: Ask for donations instead of gifts on your special day! Boss for a Day: Get permission first!! Allow co-workers to bid on being the boss for ONE day.

C

Carwashes: Spring and summer are coming!! People always need a carwash. Great fundraiser for adults, students and others! Cell Phone Fines: Who hates a cell phone going off during a meeting or in the office? Fine coworkers/employees $5 for every time

they forget to silence their phones. Coin Drive: Place a large jar in the cafeteria at school, and ask students and staff to contribute their leftover change from lunch.

Another variation: Penny Wars! Drop change in jars to compete against other grades at school; or other departments at work (use your imagination!). Pennies are worth positive points; silver dollars and cash are worth negative points. "Sabotage" the other jars by dropping silver or green in them.

D

Donut Days: Get donuts donated from a local bakery and sell them at work or school. Dress Down Days: Have employees pay to dress down at work. Ask your boss if fellow employees can buy a sticker for $5-$25 and

get to dress down on an assigned day. This can also work for schools that require uniforms (with permission!).

E

Email: Send emails to your friends, family and coworkers asking them for donations and to join your team! Check out your online participant center, where we've already written the emails for you!

Email Signature: Add your fundraising page link to your email signatures both personal and work email. Ask your boss first about your business email!

F

Facebook: Change the status on your Facebook page once a week, and talk about your participation in the Walk Against Hunger. Include the link to your personal page, or ask them join your team!

Follow Up on your asks: Your friends and family want to help! They may have just forgotten. Call, email, send a postcard to the people who haven't donated yet.

G

Game Night: Invite friends to your house to play board games, charades, etc. You can charge your friends an entry fee and maybe they can "bribe" their way to a win!

H

Hat (or Cap) Day: (Great for Schools!) Students can make a donation to wear baseball caps or sill hats to school for the day.

I

Ice Cream Socials: Plan one at your place of work with friends or children. Ask for donations to attend. Sell the ice cream and tell them proceeds are going to your Walk Team. This is also a great TEAM GET TOGETHER!

doing it! Tell them about your personal goal and ask for their help, either with a donation or to join your Walk Against Hunger Team!

M

Matching Gifts: What better way is there to DOUBLE your donations?? Ask your company to match what you can raise. Many companies already have a matching gift program in place. This is FREE money that can double your efforts, and don't forget to ask your donor if their company will match their gift too!

Puppy Parade: Gather the pooches in your neighborhood. Come up with an entry fee for their parade or organized "walk" together. Include a cutest pet contest, or costume contest, with an additional entry fee, and offer prizes. Ask your local pet store if they want to help ? be a judge, or promote it. They just might bring goodies for all the participants!!

Q

Quilts: Sell squares in honor or memory of your loved ones. Find a few quilters to help you sew it together, and then raffle off a handmade treasure!

R

Raffles: just like auctions, raffles can accommodate many items. You can raffle off homemade items or items donated from local businesses. Make sure to follow proper raffle registration rules for the State of Connecticut.

Raffle an Extra Day Off: Ask your boss or owner of your company to donate a paid day off to the winner of the drawing. Sell tickets for $5 to $25 to your coworkers. This is an easy way for most companies to contribute without donating cash.

Restaurant Programs: Many of the national restaurant chains have programs where they give 10-20% of one night's profits when customers bring in a flyer. Ask your local manager and pass out copies of the flyer, post on your Facebook page, pass it along!

S

Starbucks (coffee) Sacrifice: Do your friends spend a ridiculous amount of money on coffee?? Ask them to donate whatever they would have spent on a pricey cup of java. $5 from 10 people is $50....

Swear Jar: Who doesn't let a four letter word slip every now and then?? C'mon... you know, when the computer freezes, or looses all of your work, and before you know it the F-bomb comes flying right out! Assign a monetary value for each swear and enforce it! The S-word = a quarter; the F-bomb = $1. And be a CURSE COP!

T

Team Spirit Day: Each employee pays $5 -$25 to wear their favorite team shirt, or sweatshirt to work!

U

Ugly Sweater Contest: Yes, those ugly sweaters are out there just waiting to be rescued from the attic! Have everyone dig out their uglies, and hold a contest to see who has the ugliest! Keep it fun and humorous, use dollars to vote and the one with the most dollars wins the coveted title! Turn it into a 50/50 contest so the winner has enough cash to go out and get a new, non-ugly sweater!

V

Vendors: Don't forget to ask your vendors at work for a donation or their support! You work with them on a regular basis, why can't they give you something in return!

Vacation Day Drawing: Get your employer to agree to raffle off a vacation day with pay. The raffle money raised will support your Team.

W

Wine & Wii Party: Who's up for a game of Tipsy Tennis?? Buzzed Bowling?? It's guaranteed to be hilarious and make money! Wedding Wishes: Getting married?? Consider making a donation to Connecticut Food Bank's Walk Against Hunger instead of giving

away favors to your guests. Or, instead of registering for gifts, have your guests make a donation in your name.
