Message from California State Controller’s Office Regarding Reciprocity Reporting of California Unclaimed Property:

On June 1, 2007, a federal court issued an injunction prohibiting the California State Controller’s Office from accepting, taking title to, or possession of any unclaimed property. Due to this injunction, reciprocity reporting agreements have been suspended and other states are not authorized to accept California unclaimed property on behalf of the California State Controller’s Office. If you are holding unclaimed property that is reportable to California because the owner’s last known address is in California, you must review California’s reporting instructions and report directly to California in accordance with those instructions. At this time, holders are required to submit unclaimed property reports before November 1, 2007. However, holders will not remit or deliver any unclaimed property with those reports. Holders should visit the California State Controller’s Office web site at sco. for special reporting instructions related to the injunction and for updates as they become available.

Thank you for your assistance. Any questions about this notice may be directed to Rob Huarte at rhuarte@sco.
