CALL TO ORDER

Ms. Ho-Ruggiero called the meeting to order at 9:28 a.m.

REVIEW OF MINUTES

The Board reviewed the February 26, 2007 minutes for approval. Mr. Thompson made a motion, seconded by Mr. Carter to approve the minutes as amended. Motion unanimously carried.

Disciplinary Hearing – Sachin Karnik (Case # 31-02-06)

Mr. Karnik was sworn in and testified for the record. Verbatim testimony was taken by the court reporter. The evidence showed, and Mr. Karnik admitted, that he has been convicted of health care fraud in the state of Delaware. After deliberations, Mrs. Ho-Ruggiero made a motion, seconded by Mr. Robinson, to suspend Mr. Karnik’s license for not less than a year, and if he shows the board proof of successful completion of the following requirements, Mr. Karnik may have his license reinstated on probationary status for an additional two years during which time his practice will be restricted so that he can not be in private practice. The conditions that must be successfully completed before Mr. Karnik’s license may be removed from suspension are as follows: Mr. Karnik must 1) provide documentation that he has successfully complete counseling for gambling addiction wit a licensed or certified addictions counselor. This evidence must include a progress report from the provider reflecting his successful completion of a program; 2) complete seven hours of continuing education in ethics that may not be counted toward his 45 hours of continuing education required for license renewal; and 3) complete six hours of continuing education in the area of treating gambling addiction, which may not be counted toward the 45 hours of continuing education required for license renewal. None of his continuing education may be completed through self-directed activity. If requirements are not complete to the satisfaction of the board, the board reserves the right to extend the suspension or revoke Mr. Karnik’s license. Motion carried. Mr. Thompson recused himself from the hearing.

The board reviewed Cheryl Loftland tabled application to sit for the ASWB exam. Mr. Robinson made a motion, seconded by Mr. Carter to approve the application. Motion unanimously carried.

The Board reviewed Brenda Kriegel’s application for licensure by reciprocity. Mr. Robinson made a motion, seconded by Ms. Levy to approve the application. Motion unanimously carried

Review of Application to sit for the ASWB exam – Jennifer Cropper

The Board reviewed Jennifer Cropper’s application to sit for the ASWB exam. Mrs. Ho-Ruggiero made a motion, seconded by Mr. Carter, to approve the application Motion unanimously carried

Review of Application to sit for the ASWB exam – Henry Telo

The Board reviewed Henry Telo’s application to sit for the ASWB exam. Mrs. Ho-Ruggiero made a motion, seconded by Mr. Carter, to approve the application contingent upon the receipt of license verification from the Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington D.C. Motion unanimously carried

Review of Application to sit for the ASWB exam – Allison Kennedy

The Board reviewed Allison Kennedy’s application to sit for the ASWB exam. Mrs. Ho-Ruggiero made a motion, seconded by Mr. Carter to approve the application contingent upon the receipt of license verification from the State of Oklahoma. Motion unanimously carried

Review of Application for Licensure by Reciprocity – Sharleen Dass

The Board reviewed Sharleen Dass application to sit for the ASWB exam. Mrs. Ho-Ruggiero made a motion, seconded by Mr. Robinson, to approve the application contingent upon the receipt of license verification from the State of Pennsylvania. Motion unanimously carried

Discussion of Advance Generalist Exam

Mr. Robinson reported that Delaware State University is currently providing curriculums that teach advance general levels of social work. Mr. Robinson proposed to postpone any further discussion until a later date regarding this subject. Delaware State University plans to offer clinical courses in the future and community organization courses.

Discussion of Reciprocity and License Requirement Provisions – Chapter 39, § 3907

Abby Adams proposed to revise this provision practice protection statute and introduce the changes at a later date.

Board Member Informational Seminar - Reschedule May Board Meeting

The board will reschedule their May meeting at April’s meeting to accommodate the board members attending the Annual Board Member Informational Seminar.

Mrs. Ho-Ruggiero made a motion, seconded by Mr. Robinson, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried. There being no further business before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 11:49 a.m.
