About GBC journal

GBC Journal is a peer-reviewed specific journal published three times per year by the non-profit International Organization against Breast and Gastric Cancer. GBC publishes secondary-research articles covering all aspects of gastric and breast cancer from cancer genetics and causation-based (chemo)prevention to multidisciplinary treatment and individualized both outcome prediction and management. Although many manuscripts are solicited, unsolicited manuscripts are also welcomed considered for publication provided they meet the GBC requirements.

Aim, Scope and Mission of the Journal and the Organization against Cancer (GBCNC)

GBC’s mission is to provide free information to all clinicians (free access to all full-text articles) specific to breast cancer and gastric cancer about:

• Best available current practices in cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment (editorials)

• Experts’ opinion in controversy topics or where there is a wide variation in the managements of breast and gastric cancer in an effort to provide a treatment decision-making (perspectives, commentaries, news and views, mini-reviews)

• Rational and realistic future perspectives for a potential clinical integration of the latest cutting-edge research, call for research and clinical trials and possible changes in current medical practice (perspectives)

in an effort to support the GBCNC's goals of reducing cancer incidence and mortality rates and improving quality of life for people living with breast or gastric cancer. The journal also serves as a vehicle for continuing professional education.

Manuscript Types

GBC publishes, as it is reported above, secondary-research, update, concise, accurate, critical articles that include:

• Perspectives (2000-4000 words*)

• Editorials (1000-2000 words)

• Commentaries (2000-4000 words)

• News & views (over 2000 words), and

• Mini-reviews (> 4000 words).

*: It is not included, Abstract, References, Tables, Figures.

Peer-review Process

To sort review process and publication time all manuscripts that adhere to submission guidelines are reviewed by our internal editorial staff and if it is need also by external reviewers who are experts in their fields. Peer review is completed within 2 weeks and authors will receive an editorial decision from the Editor in Chief about rejection or accept with any revision.

Submission Guidelines

Before submission please contact the Editor (info@) providing your idea with an abstract and references. Within 48 hours you will receive by email Editor’s decision for complete manuscript submission and peer-review. Only original manuscripts that have not been published previously or submitted for publication elsewhere are eligible for consideration.

Online Submission Procedure: Authors are strongly encouraged for online submission

Authors are required to submit the following manuscript information: corresponding author’s contact information (a valid e-mail address is required), manuscript title, abstract, cover letter, keywords, acknowledgments

Submitting Your Manuscript Online

When submitting, authors have two options:

Option 1: Submit the entire manuscript (text, figures, tables, references, etc.) online (Editorial Office: info@, info@ ). Note: If the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors will be required to submit two hard copies of the entire manuscript, publication-quality figures, a disk containing a copy of the entire manuscript (text, figures, tables, references, etc.), and the manuscript information sheet, which includes the manuscript number, directly to the Editorial Office for final processing.

Option 2: Submit two hard copies of the entire manuscript, publication-quality figures, a disk containing a copy of the entire manuscript (text, figures, tables, references, etc.), directly to the Editorial Office. If submitting hard copy materials, send to:

Once a manuscript has been submitted online, an e-mail acknowledgment is sent to the corresponding author. Questions should be directed to the Editorial Office.

Page Proofs (for Accepted Articles)

If a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the corresponding author will receive page proofs via e-mail (PDF format) or via fax from the journal publisher. Page proofs must be returned within 48 hours of receipt.

Manuscript Format

Manuscripts should follow the American Medical Association Manual of Style (9th ed.)1 for grammar, punctuation, and style, and should meet the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals2 established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

Title Page

• A brief, specific title

• All author names including, academic degree(s), title(s), affiliation(s), and current address for each author

• The total number of text pages (including title page, references, and figure legends), tables, and illustrations

• Acknowledgment of all sources of financial support or financial interest in products or manufacturers of products mentioned in the article

Abstract Page

Unstructured abstracts should be brief (200-word maximum) and present an accurate overview of the manuscript. Four to six keywords should be listed at the bottom of the page. Please use Index Medicus subject headings.

Text

The manuscript should be typed, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins and printed on 8.5" X 11" white paper, single-sided. Please type only on one side of the page. Computer-generated printouts must be laser quality. In the upper right-hand corner of each page, list the corresponding author’s last name and the page number. If footnotes are used, use them only in tables and figures. Do not use footnotes to elaborate on the article text. Consult the Physicians’ Desk Reference3 to verify drug names (use generic names only, adding brand name afterward in parentheses if relevant). Abbreviations and/or acronyms should be spelled out in full preceding first use in the text.

References

References should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they are cited in the text. References cited in the manuscript should be listed in a separate section immediately following the text. Follow the American Medical Association Manual of Style (9th ed.)1 for reference formatting and punctuation.

References must be current and authors must verify all references. A reference cited only in a table or figure is numbered within the sequence established by the first mention in the text of the table or figure containing the reference.

In the reference list, abbreviate names of journals according to MEDLINE/Index Medicus. For five or more authors, list the first three names followed by "et al." Please note the following examples for format and punctuation:

Tables

Submit all tables on a disk with a hard copy of each table on a separate page. Tables should be created using Microsoft Word. Number tables consecutively in the order in which they are cited in the text. Include a brief descriptive title after the table number. Tables will be redesigned according to journal style.

Figures and Illustrations

Number illustrations consecutively according to the order in which they are cited in the text. All figures and illustrations must also be submitted on disk (including legends) accompanied by a separate hard copy of each figure.

Cover Art

All authors are invited to submit potential cover art (photographs and/or illustrations preferred). See the Figures and Illustrations guidelines above for specifications. CA does not guarantee that cover art submitted will be utilized, however, and any original photographs, line drawings, etc. will not be returned unless the authors submit a written request along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope at the time of submission.

Copyright and Author Responsibility

All authors will receive and be required to sign a copyright transfer and warranty agreement. Each author must have participated significantly in the work (as per authorship requirements listed in the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals2) to take responsibility for its content. Authors must also agree to take public responsibility for their work at all times. No article will be published in the journal without a copyright transfer and warranty agreement signed by all authors.

Authors are required to disclose any financial conflicts of interest that may cause bias within the work. Financial support of any kind received for the purpose of completing the work must also be stated clearly in the manuscript. In addition, authors have an ethical responsibility to ensure all research discussed in their work is credible and data are accurate prior to publication. Authors must also clearly identify within the article text, any discussion of investigational or "off-label" use of drugs or medical devices.

Permissions

Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission from publishers to reproduce or adapt any previously published material (including the author’s own work). Authors must obtain written permission from: (1) the holder of any copyrighted material (text, illustrations, tables) used in the manuscript; (2) the administrator of any institution (university, hospital, clinic) mentioned in the manuscript; and (3) actual persons mentioned in the manuscript. Where permission has been granted, the author should follow any special wording stipulated by the grantor. Formal letters granting permission must be included in the manuscript submission package.

Permission statements must also be obtained from at least one author when citing unpublished data, in press articles, and/or personal communication. In photographs, patients' identities should be masked whenever possible. However, if patients are identifiable, written permission to use the photograph must be obtained from the patient or guardian and submitted with the manuscript. Clearly state in the manuscript that informed consent has been obtained.
