- Fasting 6-8 hours prior to testing

- SMA and Celiac velocity criteria established for patients in fasting state - Minimize bowel gas - SMA changes from high resistance to low resistance post prandial

- Medications can be taken with a little water as needed

Patient positioning

- Patient supine in a slight reverse Trendelenburg position

Evaluate for evidence of plaque or stenosis

B-mode documenting presence or absence of plaque/calcification

Document velocities at origin, proximal, mid, and

distal segments

If 60? angle cannot be obtained, align

appropriately at < 60?
