UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT GREENSBORO

I very much value your thoughts about this training. Your specific feedback helps me make corrections as I move toward my goal of creating purposeful, visionary Life Design Catalysts that empowers students to be responsible for creating meaningful educational experiences. Please use the other side of his sheet for additional comments…

2. Specific concepts/strategies I will use/adapt include:
• The activities and videos are excellent resources that I plan to utilize with students.
• Values tags, My Life Story poster, all the videos... basically, everything. :)
• The concepts and strategies complement and extend the work I currently doing. I am still contemplating how I will integrate the lessons learned, but i plan to incorporate most, if not all, of the hands-on activities. I also plan to utilize the Jiro Dreams of Sushi documentary if possible.
• Questions and posters.
• Activities that have complete strangers creating and sharing ideas on their goals and how they see themselves.
• Videos and resources; lollipop moments; values assessment.
• Posters for larger concepts; value cards with high school students.
• Desired dream list; portfolio life; meaningful work mind map; Steve Harvey “Jump” video; Michael Jr. “Know Your Why” video.
• The yellow worksheet within high schools; going over my own yellow worksheet when I’m stuck to re-evaluate.
• Identifying values and strengths in students; figuring out the “Jump” video.
• I will make it a point to re-evaluate my values and interests on a regular basis.
• Values; character strengths; major/career exploration poster.
• Everything! I really like how all of the pieces fit together into the three posters and give students the ability to represent themselves in creative ways.
• Idea sharing (Day 3) – so great to expand ideas and how to approach them.
• All the exercises.
• Jump; plus everything else.
• Values work; helping people find their “why”; meaningful work statement; “Know Your Why” and “Jump” videos.
• Kick-Ass Questions; desired dream list and idea exchange; value cards; meaningful work piece.
• I’m still not sure. I will need to go over things and see how it fits into my syllabus. I will definitely be using a great deal of what I learned here.
• I will use all of these strategies and I am so glad we are entering the summer so I will have time to put together my version of this awesome training!
• “Jump” video; idea exchange.
• Everything ( And then some…
• I will be CASEing (Copying and Stealing Everything)! As I reflect further I will be thinking of how to best bring to my campus and community.
• All of it.
• Everything.
3. What I liked best about the training content and/or facilitation...
• The people willing to be venerable and to sincerely share, think introspectively, and provide quality feedback for activities.
• Besides the awesome facilitation by Bill, the group was so friendly and fun. It seemed to get better and better each day, which is not always the case with conferences and workshops of this length. I believe I've made friendships that will be sustained long-term.
• Unlike most seminars, I feel like I got to experience Life Design as a student. That is, I did the work and completed the activities myself. I did not just learn about them. The facilitation strategies were excellent.
• The enthusiasm of the presenter.
• Everyone came into this with an open mind. We discussed our lives, what we want to change/implement in our given professions. We shared our thoughts and had our peers give us feedback. The activities we were engaged in made us think past surface level answers.
• Personal growth and development; collaborative; creative.
• Exploration; connection with others; hands-on activities.
• Flexible structure of schedule each day; pair/group discussions of activities.
• Interaction with other participants and constant feedback.
• Meeting new people and sharing stories.
• The connecting with so many people and obtaining so many points of view.
• Active work; sharing.
• I thought the flow was very effective. The combo of personal thought/reflection, pair-share, group interactions, and processing.
• The chance to get to know so many new people from all over the world. (
• Flexible/adaptable; meeting/interacting with new people.
• Great people; great energy.
• All the hands-on self-work; concrete activities to bring back, not just theories.
• Having time to work on activities outside or wherever we liked.
• I really liked the binder. I feel like I can easily implement even the things we didn’t do because instructions are so clear.
• I love Bill’s energy, positivity, the years of work put into developing this material and finally resources – books, videos, articles etc. – I am so excited to dig into everything.
• I loved 36 questions.
• Ability to engage and connect with others (learning from the group), while leaning how this applies to students in higher education.
• People; activities; snacks; fellowship; materials; Bill and his team!
• All the hands-on examples.
• Amazing group; inspirational activities; UNCG is awesome; Megan is great; Bill is truly inspirational, +1 to the infinite power.
4. Ways I think the training content and/or facilitation can be improved...
• More time...in retrospect, I would have come in on Sunday night to start on Monday in order to have more closure/fun on Friday.
• The content was great. Sometimes there were some dominant personalities that tried to take over, but Bill did a wonderful job of reigning them in and keeping the group focused.
• It's intense. A lot of mental work that can be draining, yet I would not eliminate anything. The size of the seminar was perfect; it was not too big. The size of the seminar and the nature of activities fostered conversations and relationships. I enjoyed the structured and unstructured time. I am struggling to identify areas for improvement. It may be helpful to start on Monday and use Friday to talk about implementation of the concepts/strategies learned. Yet, that may be too early. I am still processing what I learned and thinking through how to implement it.
• More structure.
• Nothing that comes to mind. Everything was thought out and well executed.
• Smaller group (20-25); little more closer to time constraints.
• The room on the first day was ideal. The room used the others days was not ideal since some people always have to turn around and the chairs did not work for me since I’m a big guy.
• The EUC room worked way better, so having it all four days is much better. 3 or 3½ days instead of 4 days – I am drained today! It’s so good and I want to be present, but my body/mind are needing a break.
• I know we were very chatty and ran over time. Having flexibility is important, but it could help to keep us a little more on task with a signal at times of transition.
• (Unsure how to do it), but HPU didn’t really go outside their bubble…
• Possibly longer to cover more topics/exercises; monitor time for activities better.
• LONGER! Could make it 5 days or limit time overages to fit even more in.
• Sometimes the discussion after an activity could have been shortened. It is good to hear people but just a couple times I felt people derailed us.
• I’d like to know a little more of the “why,” not just the what or how. I really liked hearing why Bill uses specific activities or why he does this in a particular order.
• I can’t think of more.
• If everyone stayed at the same hotel, we could have finished activities at night. But, that is asking too much! I wish this was a 5-day workshop!
• Loved the connections (I truly did!), but maybe less time for some activities so we can get through more activities and make more connections. Again, loved everything, but would also love to see Megan shine her light!
• We could have gone on for another day – maybe it was just this crazy cohort, but we did network and learn much from one another.
• Nothing. Great.
• The 36 questions are good…could they create forms of intimacy that might be hard to handle? Are you ready for that?
5. I'd also like to say or add...
• I am grateful that I had to look at myself, understand my "Why", so I can be a more effective educator. Now the hard work of being someone's catalyst is in my hands!
• Bill and Megan... EXCELLENT work!! Keep it up!!
• I enjoyed the content, interaction, and people. It requires a lot of social interaction and self-reflection, and it can be mental draining. Still, it is enjoyable, stimulating, and worthwhile too. I would not change a thing! I appreciated the hands-on nature of the training and the opportunity to interact with Bill, Megan, and all of the participants. It was one of the best professional development experiences I have had.
• I came into this workshop thinking I was there to help students, but I found myself having several ah-ha moments.
• This has been an amazing experience that more people should be taking advantage of. I have met professionals that are going to help me along my next step in higher education and plans for my career. Bill is awesome. His willingness to help others is a quality that makes this experience that much better. Knowledge is power and he is giving us tools to use it. Megan is awesome too. Everyone that helped facilitate the operations and make this run smoothly is appreciated.
• Life Design Cat! Meow!
• This will shape my everyday work in numerous ways.
• Uncomfortable, yet enjoyable; mental and emotional stretching opportunity.
• Thank you for helping me find my WHY!
• I felt as if some participants spoke down to undergrad participants, highlighting the age gap.
• Thank you!
• If you do want to consider a Part Two camp component to this, I would enjoy helping to plan it! Event planning is one of my strengths and I would love to be involved.
• I LOVE Bill! (
• I’d love to try to bring this to the School of Education, starting with my own graduate students.
• Thank you Bill. My life will never be the same…in a good way.
• This is indeed life-changing. Thank you so much. The fact that you let us have these resources for free to use or adapt is really amazing.
• I’ll be back (with friends).
• I will be back!!!! And hope to bring colleagues.
• Thank you Bill and Megan! (
• Thank you – doesn’t even begin to cover it. Exactly what I needed, when I needed it, where I needed. ( Hope to do this exact work (also known as my meaningful work) in the future! Thank you and I will see you all soon!
• As I process this experience, I am sure I will understand the full impact more deeply over time. I have make connections that will be valuable and fruitful. Please share any of my words of wisdom. ( Love you all!
• Thank you.
• Thank you!!!!!!

• “The most meaningful professional development I have ever experienced in my twenty-plus years in higher education. This training cut to the core of how we can best help students find their purpose for attending college and inspiring them to define meaningful work in and beyond the classroom.” - Terri Rodriguez, Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester, MA
• “I enjoyed the content, interaction, and people. Stay at the hotel, eat with everyone else, watch the movies, and go to Cookout. The conversations outside of the "classroom" training are just as important. It was one of the best professional development experiences I have had.” - Dr. Todd Parks, associate professor and coordinator of Academic Support Services and First-Year Programs
• “Great, scary, insightful, and revealing. I am so happy I came and met a bunch of like-minded people.” – Frank Benefield, Transition Coach, University of Tennessee-Knoxville
