QuestBridge is a nonprofit organizer of the National College Match Program, which helps high-achieving low-income students gain admission and full four-year scholarships to leading colleges. Apply free of charge at by September 30, 2011 (see your counselor if you have questions).

THE LEVINE SCHOLARS PROGRAM @ UNC-CHARLOTTE

Criteria: The program seeks outstanding seniors who demonstrate evidence of experience, motivation and commitment to community service, passion for learning and an excellent academic record, and capacity for ethical leadership that beckons fellow students toward a higher standard (successful candidates: 3.8-4.0 unweighted GPA, 1800-1400 SAT, 29-36 ACT); there is no limit to the number of MT seniors who may be nominated

Awards: Fifteen full four-year scholarships, including tuition, room and board, a new laptop computer, and four summer experiences which will develop leadership skills and social awareness ($90,000)

JEFFERSON SCHOLARS PROGRAM @ THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA

Criteria: Demonstrated uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents and an understanding of the broader community around them (one MT senior may be nominated to apply)

Awards: 4 years of tuition, fees, room & board, and expenses; extensive enrichment program ($200,000 for non-Virginians)

Deadline: November 1, 2011 to apply; submit Senior Profile/Resume and Scholarship Nomination Form, along with a brief statement of how you fit the scholarship criteria to Mr. Huck by October 3, 2011 to be considered for the nomination

JOHN MONTGOMERY BELK SCHOLARSHIP @ DAVIDSON COLLEGE

Criteria: Students who have demonstrated outstanding intellectual ability and success, leadership experience, commitment to service and overall personal vigor (one MT senior may be nominated)

Awards: Up to six scholarships equivalent to the college’s comprehensive fees ($47,199 per year); also two summer stipends to pursue international study and other enrichment opportunities

CENTENNIAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM @ NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY

Criteria: Strong students interested in the fields of engineering, business management, chemistry, polymer chemistry, forensic, medical fields, international studies, design, apparel, sourcing, fashion, merchandising, or retail management (TEXTILE-related degree programs); two MT students may be nominated, and additional students may self-nominate

Awards: Up to 10 scholarships each year, covering approximately 70% of the basic in-state cost of attendance ($47,500)

Award: $1,500 scholarship, renewable for 4 years and summer travel to China

Criteria: The P.E.O Sisterhood is an international philanthropic educational organization that promotes educational opportunities for women through grants, loans, and scholarships; young women who exhibit excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success

EMERGING ISSUES PRIZE FOR INNOVATION

Criteria: A challenge for high school students to come up with an innovative idea to solve one of our state’s most pressing problems; this year’s prize challenge is to come up with an innovative idea to increase North Carolina’s high school graduation rate (interested students should form a team to prepare your proposal and complete the application)

Awards: $1,000 to finalist teams and $5,000 to the winning high school team

THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS

Criteria: Student who has devoted a significant number of volunteer hours over the past year (awards at the local, state, and national levels); applicants may also be eligible for the President’s Volunteer Service Award

Awards: $1,000 scholarship and trip to Washington, D.C.

Criteria: Senior enrolled in a NCHSAA high school with participation on two or more varsity school-sponsored, NCHSAA sanctioned athletic teams, involvement and success in non-sport, extracurricular activities, and a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA

THE ROBERTSON SCHOLARS PROGRAM @ UNC-CHAPEL HILL AND DUKE UNIVERSITY

Criteria: Behavior that is grounded in strong ethical principles, superior academic achievement and intellectual curiosity, strong leadership potential, courage, and collaborative spirit

Awards: 36 full merit scholarships (half at each university)

WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN AWARD

Criteria: Female and male scholar-athletes entering their senior year of high school in the 2011-12 academic year who have at least a “B” grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport; female and male high school students who excel in academics, athletics, and student leadership are encouraged to apply.

Awards: One male and one female from Mount Tabor will be named school winners in late October; State Finalists will be announced in November; State winners will be determined in mid-November (the first 30,000 students that complete an application will win a Wendy’s Gift Card in amounts of $5 to $50)

Criteria: Scholar athletes who are strong leaders both in the classroom and in their sport; exceptional seniors who plan to pursue participation in one of 21 Division 1 sports offered

Awards: Two Bryan Scholars, one male and one female, are chosen for each incoming class ($30,000 annually)

EMORY SCHOLARS PROGRAM @ EMORY UNIVERSITY

Criteria: Students who have outstanding records of academic achievement, who possess extra-ordinary personal qualities, and who have made significant contributions to their class, their school, and their community (four MT seniors may be nominated)

Awards: Range from two-thirds tuition to full tuition, room, board, fees and extensive programs of educational enrichment (350 semifinalists admitted to Emory in January, approximately 70 will be interviewed in March –approximately 25 recipients will be selected)

Criteria: Students who possess superior academic credentials and interest in business, as evidenced by engagement in entrepreneurial activities, internships, business clubs, and other business oriented activities

Awards: two-thirds tuition to full tuition and fees with additional study abroad opportunities

RON BROWN SCHOLAR PROGRAM

Criteria: African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society; applicants must excel academically, exhibit exemplary leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need

Awards: At least $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 per year for four years)

Criteria: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American students who have significant financial need and demonstrated leadership skills; have attained a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.3 and enrolling college for the first time as full time students (plan to study computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science)
