DIALOGUE I John: Hi, my name is John. What is your name? Sarah: My name is Sarah. John: How do you spell your name? Sarah: It is spelled S-a-r-a-h. John: Okay, I see. It's nice to meet you. Sarah: It's nice to meet you too. John: Where are you from? Sarah: I'm from China. I am a student here at Harvard. John: Where in China are you from? Sarah: I lived in Beijing before I came to the United States. What about you? John: I used to live in Shanghai, but I live in Cambridge now. Sarah: When did you come to America? John: I came here in November of 1995. How long have you been here? Sarah: I've been in the United States for four years. John: Why did you come to this country? Sarah: I am studying here at Harvard. What about you? John: I came here because my parents work here. Sarah: What are your parents' jobs? John: My father is a doctor, and my mother is an accountant. In addition, my mother works another job as a chef. Do you have any brothers or sisters? Sarah: Yes. I have one younger sister.

DIALOGUE II A: Excuse me, can you help me? Can you give me directions to the Super 88 Supermarket? B: Which supermarket is that? Is that the market that is next to the bus stop? B: Do you know what the address is? A: Let me think... oh, the address is 1040 Commonwealth Avenue. B: Oh, the supermarket is not far from here. From here, walk straight until you arrive at the third intersection. A: And then? B: At the third intersection, turn left. Then, keep walking straight for about a half mile until you arrive at Commonwealth Avenue. Then, turn right on to Commonwealth Avenue. Keep walking down Commonwealth Avenue and you will see the supermarket on your left. A: Thank you!
