Student Development Coordinator

Scope of Responsibilities As a member of the University Center Activities and Events Student Life team, the Student Development Coordinator (SDC) provides advisement to the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Multicultural Greek Council, including but not limited to, their interest meetings, intake processes, and the planning of educational, cultural, and social activities. Provide advisement and supervision to students attending leadership immersion experiences and directly supervise and advise the peer-to-peer leadership consulting organization, Launch. Create, enforce, and implement policy and procedural initiatives to insure safe practices in risk management for students and their activities. Engage collaboratively and partner with key stakeholders within the Duke University and Durham communities to support the ever changing and diverse student population.

Duties Advise the NPHC and MGC executive boards. Provide leadership and advisement during weekly meetings. Serve as a resource to NPHC and MGC executive boards and individual chapters related to the design and implementation of Greek intake processes, and assisting individual chapters to adhering to and meeting standardized procedures and deadlines. Assist student leaders in planning and managing social, educational, and cultural events, including large-scale events, retreats, and training opportunities. Serve as a resource and expert on University policy and procedures and programmatic initiatives, while managing positive relationships within the Division of Student Affairs, and with the broader Duke and Durham community.

Execute performance contracts in collaboration with UCAE and serve as a

resource and advisor to students and advisors on the legal liabilities and risk

management involved in event planning. Facilitate training and educational

initiatives to provide students with knowledge and skills to execute

successful and safe events. Provide crisis management response to NPHC,

MGC groups, and other student groups who plan retreats and engage in off

campus immersion experiences.

Assist with leadership program planning, development, and assessment to

include, but not limited to, the peer-to-peer leadership consulting group,

Launch, women's leadership initiative alternative spring break, and the ACC

Leadership Conference. Serve as a positive role model through teaching,

facilitating, and advising large-scale and small group learning opportunities.

Recruit students in the planning and implementation of educational

opportunities and assist in the assessment efforts.

Attend seminars/webinars and have an active presence on relevant listservs

related to NPHC and MGC groups. Serve on short-term University

committees, attend professional development workshops, role model

collaboration and build positive relationships both internal and external to

Student Affairs. Build relationships with campus partners to teach and

promote the Leadership Framework.

General Qualifications

Education: Master's degree required in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field of study.

Experience: Work generally requires experience in student activities, advising, student organizational support, and program planning at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
