Other Aid Sources

State Grant programs, although sometimes restricted to in-state attendance, are nonetheless important sources of aid. All applicants for university aid are required to apply for a state grant. If you are a Pennsylvania resident, you must file the FAFSA prior to May 1, 2004 to be considered for a state grant, which was valued at up to $3,300 for 2002-2003. State grants are subtracted from the amount of Lehigh-funded grant aid. Failure to file completely, and on time, may result in reduced grant aid that can only be replaced with additional loan assistance.

Federal Pell Grants are available to some students based on financial circumstances as determined from filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Pell Grant program is a "direct entitlement" in that, if you are eligible (based on the "estimated family contribution" calculated under the Federal Methodology) it may be used at any approved institution of higher education. By contrast, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant program provides funding to the University to award as many Pell-eligible students as funding permits.
