GUIDELINES FOR MAGNET STUDENTSThe goal of all students enrolled in the South Miami K-8 Center Expressive Arts Magnet and the Double C Program is that they achieve their fullest potential in the overall program. MAGNET STATUS REQUIREMENTS:“C” or better in ALL academic classes“C” or better in magnet class“C” or better in ALL conduct grades“1, 2” effort grade in ALL academic classesA clean record, free of detentions, referrals and suspensionsAppropriate conduct in classes, rehearsals, performance and field tripsExcellent attendance and punctuality to school, rehearsals and performancesSPECIAL NOTE: In accepting placement into the magnet strand of your choice, YOU ARE COMMITTING TO THAT STRAND FOR THE ENTIRE TIME YOUR CHILD IS ENROLLED AT SOUTH MIAMI K-8 CENTER.PLEASE NOTE:It is the parent’s/Guardian’s responsibility to monitor their child’s grades at ALL times.At the conclusion of each grading period, your child’s grades will be reviewed. If your child has not met the above stated Magnet Requirements, the student will be placed on probation, and he/she is expected to correct the particular details of probation by the next grading period or face dismissal from the Magnet Program. Upon dismissal, the student will be immediately removed from the Magnet Program, and any siblings also on a transfer would be required to register at their home school at the end of the school year.At the principal’s discretion, unacceptable behavior resulting in suspension may result in immediate dismissal from the Magnet Program.How to monitor your child’s grades:Check the Parent Portal dailyCheck the interim progress reports (sent home halfway through each grading period)Check the report card (send home every nine weeks)Stay in touch with your child’s teachers ................
