The Marshall Geer McKim Memorial Fund

A scholarship for Clark University students studying abroad

DEADLINE: March 1st

Overview of Scholarship:

Marshall Geer McKim, a Clark student and government / international relations major of the Class of 1991, died unexpectedly in an automobile accident during the winter break 1990, leaving behind many loved ones. His family and friends established a memorial fund in remembrance of his fond memories of his time abroad during 1989.

The Marshall Geer McKim Scholarship aims to provide financial support for students to study abroad who otherwise might not be able to due to financial hardships. Each spring, 2-3 students are awarded a scholarship, ranging between $500 to $1,000, to support their study abroad experience during the upcoming fall semester and academic year. Students must be planning to attend a Clark approved study abroad program to be eligible.

Application Instructions:

Prepare the following documents and upload them to Clark’s opportunity funding application portal.

Documents to Prepare:

• 1 page essay:

o Introduce yourself and explain how your study abroad experience will support your academic goals and career or professional goals.

o Explain any barriers you face in making study abroad a reality.

• Study Abroad Budget Sheet

o Include a copy of your Study Abroad Budget Sheet detailing the costs to Clark, your program, as well as additional expected expenses.

• Budget Narrative

o Provide a short description of your ability to finance your study abroad program.

o Include what other scholarships you have applied for and explain how you plan to finance the costs to Clark, your program, and additional personal expenses associated with study abroad.

o Include how much money you are requesting and explain how you would use the funds to support your study abroad experience.

Application Process:

• The deadline to submit complete applications is March 1st.

Recipient Expectations:

• Recipients of the scholarship are expected to:

o Write a letter to the scholarship donor acknowledging your award.

o Serve as a Study Abroad Ambassador by promoting your study abroad experience through articles, photos, public speaking, peer advising, and events.
