Introduction to the SAT Critical Reading and Writing Sections
Introduction to the SAT Critical Reading and Writing Sections
New for 2013, this course offers:
( 5 weekly sessions, 2½ hrs/session
( All course materials
( Free post-exam consultation
( Experienced, certified teacher
( Small class size
This course teaches students the fundamental skills they need to optimize their Critical Reading and Writing scores. Class time focuses on specific strategies for each question type, vocabulary, grammatical basics, college-level writing basics, and practice sections. Homework includes vocabulary assignments, practice sections and tests, and creation of useful study guides. I do not administer a full-length diagnostic test; students learn to take the test the right way from day one. However, session 4 will be a practice test administered under testing conditions, and will contain a full complement of verbal sections (8 sections total). Students need to bring their PSAT scores to the first session to help them create appropriate target scores.
This course is designed for juniors facing the SAT for the first time with little or no previous SAT prep. It presents all the tools a student needs to have a successful first encounter with the SAT. After taking the test and receiving the results, each course participant wishing to raise his/her scores is invited to meet with me for a private session during which we will plan out a course of preparation for the October exam. Visit for more details on the post exam consultation.
