Counselor Certification Policy

ACCC Policy On Debt Management Professional CertificationIn accordance with the FCAA Code of Practice, Recounseling personnel and Team Leads must be certified by a designated certification exam within their first year of employment.Employees will be allowed to take the exam a maximum of 3 times (paid by ACCC; any other attempts will be done via the employee’s own time/money as long as it is within the required time frame). If needed a study group will be assigned on a weekly basis and managers will allow employees to attend each session. Employees are strongly encouraged to attend as these sessions as they are meant to aid employees in preparation for the exam. Managers will offer employees at least one hour per week during work hours to study for the exam. (However, if the employees are taking the exam for the 4+ time, studying is to be done on their own time.)If a Recounseling Representative or Team Lead does not pass the exam within a year of hire or transfer date, they will be terminated. IF there is an appropriate opening in another department that the employee can fill, that option might be considered in lieu of termination.Employees are also responsible for earning the Continuing Education Credits (CEU’s) necessary to maintain their certification. For employees with client contact, not maintaining the CEU’s will result in termination.*Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for employees with shift schedules prohibiting their attendance (ie. evening counselors with shifts starting at 6pm, part time employees working sporadic hours, etc.). If you believe this situation applies to you, please contact Human Resources. ................
