Substitute Teacher Registration

**ALL STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED TO BE A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER**

STEP 1:

Eligibility:

To register as a substitute teacher in Catoosa County you must have the following:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Substitute Teacher Training Certificate

-OR-

• Georgia Teacher Certification

A four-hour training class is required in Catoosa County if you are not a Certified Teacher.

The substitute training class is offered thru Northwest GA RESA. Registration for the substitute training class must be completed online (click on “Substitute Teacher Trainings” link).

There is a $50 nonrefundable fee that must be paid before attending the class.

STEP 2:

Complete Substitute Request/Recommendation Form:

Please complete the top portion of the form. Then, take the form to one Catoosa County school to be completed by the school’s administrator. The school’s administrator will send the completed form to Human Resources.

STEP 3:

Human Resources will contact the applying substitute:

• After the completed Request/Recommendation Form has been received by Human Resources, applicant will be contacted to complete online registration for a fingerprint/background check at the applicant’s expense at ga. (payable by credit card or money order). An appointment is necessary for the actual fingerprinting in Human Resources. Money orders must be made out for exact amount of online fee.

• Once fingerprint/background check results are obtained by Human Resources, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment to complete additional paperwork.

STEP 4:

Complete paperwork in Human Resources:

Applications cannot be processed without these original documents.

• Driver’s License

• Social Security Card

• Original documentation showing the highest level of education COMPLETED

• Substitute Teacher Training Certificate -OR- Teacher Certification License

STEP 5:

Start being a Substitute Teacher:

Once all requirements above are met, applicant will be contacted by Human Resources to pick up their Substitute Verification Form to be added to a particular school’s substitute list, please take the Substitute Teacher Verification form that you receive from Human Resources to that school. You may take the Form to multiple schools.

• Education Specialist

• Doctorate

$58/day

Teacher Substitute with:

• High School diploma

• Associates Degree

Rate of Pay:

• Pay period runs from the 15th of each month

• Hours worked after the 15th of a month will be paid in the following month

• Checks are mailed to the address listed on the application the last business day of each month
