|Course Description |The mission of Phase 2 of the LEAD Program is to provide students the opportunity to learn about various aspects of the community |
| |(government, healthcare, education, social services, judicial/criminal justice, and business/economics) and how those entities impact our|
| |community. Students will gain knowledge of various agencies and organizations in order to begin exploring ways for them to get involved |
| |as part of personal and professional development. |
|Course Outcomes |Upon successful completion of this course, the student will: |
| |Learn about various organizations and services within the community |
| |Learn ways that leaders can have impacts within those areas |
| |Help students identify ways to connect within the community based on their major |
|Desire2Learn (D2L) |This course does not utilize the D2L shell as an online companion to the course. |
|Assignments |Reflection Paper #1 – Students will select a topic from the class presentations from September 3, September 17, or October 1, and reflect|
| |on how those aspects of leadership/community issues have impacted, inspired, or challenged them and how they plan to carry forward the |
| |ideas/concepts learned as a student leader. Please type this paper – should be between 1-2 pages (Times New Roman, 12pt. font, with 1 |
| |inch margins). |
| |Due Date: Thursday, October 15 |
| |Reflection Paper #2 – Students will select a topic from the class presentations from October 15, October 29, or November 12, and reflect |
| |on how those aspects of leadership/community issues have impacted, inspired, or challenged them and how they plan to carry forward the |
| |ideas/concepts learned as a student leader. Please type this paper – should be between 1-2 pages (Times New Roman, 12pt. font, with 1 |
| |inch margins). |
| |Due Date: Wednesday, November 25 (final day of the semester) |

| |Class will meet on the following Thursday evenings from 5:15 pm – 7:00 pm. Class will be a mix of online, in-person, and possible travel |
| |to off-campus locations. Class updates will be provided via email. Please note that pending changes due to COVID-19, this class could be |
| |moved fully to online instruction only. If this decision does occur, Pete and Aaron will update the class as soon as possible via email. |
