Pottery Throwing on the Wheel

Discover the joy of creating functional clay vessels such as mugs, bowls and vases. Beginners are introduced to basic wheel techniques such as wedging, centering and throwing. Surface decoration, glazing and trimming skills are also covered. Repeat and experienced students are welcome and encouraged to learn new techniques. Hone Your Craft at TJ Art Studios

The Art Studios at Thomas Jefferson Community Center offer great opportunities for artists and craftsmen to refine and improve their craft in a safe and creative studio environment. Please note: previous experience is required for all studio programs. Studios follow Arlington County Public School inclement weather policy.

Independent Study: Jewelry & Woodshop

With experienced instructors on hand to offer guidance, attendees with experience can work on their jewelry making and woodworking projects. Registration fee: $21 per session. Drop-in Programs

Love ceramics? Need a fun, creative environment to improve your wheel-throwing skills? Visit the Art Studios at TJ to hone your craft. Drop-in hours are Mondays: 9:30am?12:30pm; 2?5pm and 6:30?9:30pm; and Saturdays 2?5pm (Oct?May).

Try-It Wheel Workshops

Try-it! Jump right in and get your hands dirty working on a potter's wheel. This one-time session is a fun way to learn about the potterymaking process. Come create and play with clay at the TJ Art Studios. Fee is $42 per person for a two-hour experience. Space is limited to two at a time. One-on-One Jewelry Instruction

An intensive one-session workshop for anyone who may need a little guidance to finish a project or wants to learn a technique. These two-hour sessions are tailored to your needs and skill level. Intro to Woodshop

Did you know there is a community

woodshop in Arlington right around

the corner at TJ Art Studios? Join us

in our basic introduction course on

woodworking! In addition to learn-

ing fundamental safety guidelines, the

course will introduce students to the

core machines in our woodshop (band

saw, planer, jointer, radial-arm saw,

cut-off saw, drill press, disc and drum

sanders and the ever-important table

saw) as well as a brief instruction on

the woodworking project concepts

of planning, shaping/cutting lumber

and sanding/finishing. You will make

a cutting board as you become famil-

iar with the equipment. The course

cost covers all the materials for your

first projects. Small class size of three

or four to ensure individual instruc-

tion and time on the machines. There

is a non-refundable $25 supply fee

Enjoy Music with your child while they experience their FIRST Music class! We will explore fun topics such as the farm, cooks in the kitchen, the sea, birds, animals, parts of the body and surprises, etc.! Students and parents will participate in language repetition & speech development, greetings and goodbyes, verbal and physical counting, memory & reaction exercises, gross & fine motor skills, instrument manipulation & handling, rhythm exercises, and listening & melody development. The Science Seed

Build, code and have fun with LEGO? WeDo 2.0. Enhance kid's curiosity and science skills with Silver Knights Robotics. Students will explore robotics with LEGO bricks, easy-to-use coding software and engaging STEM challenges. Projects include programmable spy robots, animals and vehicles. Kids work in pairs with a tablet and a LEGO? WeDo 2.0 kit that includes over 250 pieces, a SmartHub, motor, and motion and tilt sensors. Make LEGO? WeDO 2.0 SpaceBots in this session of Robotics Club. Each week, students build and code a different Space-themed robot using LEGO? gear, pulleys, motors and sensors. Basic Dog Obedience

Dog owners and dogs who have had little or no previous training will learn leash, heeling and sit down, stay and recall commands. Problem solving for house soiling, biting, jumping and chewing will be addressed. Notify the instructor ahead of class if you suspect or know your dog is aggressive so accommodations can be made. Dogs must be over six months of age; documentation of all required vaccinations is required. Female dogs in heat are prohibited from attending. Owners must clean up after their pets at all times. Step Aerobics

Step has been a fitness favorite for 18 years for very good reasons. While it designed to strengthen knees it's a fabulous cardiovascular workout.
